Description
Mr Right: This tune again? I hope you've made a few improvements.
Mr Left: Well I think so.

Mr Right: Spent some time on it, I hope.
Mr Left: Quite a lot, actually.

Mr Right: Good. So what have you changed?
Mr Left: Sped up the tempo to avoid the "loping along" feel. Added some organ sounds on the left, and slide guitar with an open D tuning on the right. Added a bass solo and an acoustic guitar solo (well plugged in, I'm afraid - still struggling to get a nice clean sound on the miked acoustic solos) and the whole thing is longer. Took a beat out of each bar of the drums to avoid the rickety-tickety sound and brought them all in closer to the centre of the mix. Didn't try to get clever with that hammering up and down the high E string that didn't really work in the last version.

Mr Right: Well that should improve things. And the sound effects?
Mr Left: Gone.

Mr Right: Well let's see what the MJers think of it.
Mr Left: I just hit "Submit".

Nice melody and blend of textures!

Thanks
The blend of textures was certainly part of my intention here, Andrew - it's a fairly basic tune and I was looking for ways to keep the interest level through the tune. Thanks for the comment!

Great work
Not sure if I heard the earlier version but I'd bet this is better, cause I think it's terrific. We don't get enough good, old-fashioned country OR western tunes. Everything sounds wonderful, esp the bass solo ;-)

Thanks
Much appreciated, Richard - especially the comments on the bass solo. Although I've fiddled around with a bass over the years, it's only recently that I've started playing it more often and trying various things. Yes - a bit of country never hurt anyone!

Dreamy, lullaby quality...
Hi Philip. This is a musically more satisfying version. The subtle slide work adds interest to the piece and the bass solo fits in well. It has a dreamy, almost lullaby quality to it that is quite relaxing. Talk soon, Peter.

Dreamy
I think it's an improvement (although I sort of liked those sounds effects even if only a few others did!) It rolls along comfortably, so "lullaby quality" is OK by me. Catch up soon.

Guitars on the Prairie
I like the drums better in this one. I like the picked melody. It is nicely interwoven with the acoustic. Mr. Right & Mr. Left are pretty funny :)

Thanks
I appreciate the comment on the drums - I tried for simpler and more together so I'm pleased it has improved things. Mr Right and Mr left - I guess we all have some "self talk" going on in our heads from time to time! Thanks for listening to the two versions and taking the time to comment!

gittyup!
This is wonderful! Fantastic lush tones in the recording and the fret work is worthy of a long trail ride 'cross the plains!

kicked back & wine
Sunset picture with this tells it all. It's a ballad package that can't fail. Really, the "wet" tones are a relaxing measure for the kick-back routine. Nice.

full acoustic sound...
I'm relaxing in the vibe, the clear cool expressive guitar playing. This is a great tune to close out the night.

cheers...

That's a nice compliment - I like the idea of the tune finishing the day's listening! Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.

Short and sweet
Really enjoyed this. It could be three times longer and I wouldn't complain! As is, it would make a perfect segue between two vocal songs on your next album. Sweet song for sure.

I'll keep that in mind - I have to admit I come and go on this tune. Sometimes I think it's just silly, other times I quite like it....

I like the additions...
But you know what? There's so much good stuff going on in the guitars that I'd be interested in hearing what this sounds like mixed down with no drum track. I'm not sure it needs one. I'd bring up the acoustic rhythm track a tad to compensate; let an organic sound carry the back beat. I think it would sound more homogenous and authentic. Just a thought...
