Goo Goo Eyes (with APOD)

Description
I'm sure you all know what it's like when APOD knocks on your door and invites you to be a part of a new song idea. It's tremendous.

I'm embarrassed to say that before anyone else responded to Michael2's musical offering, I jumped on it and started writing and singing and sent it back to the guys in anticipation of brutal criticism and mockery. Well, that's not what happened. They were very encouraging and supportive of my initial sketch and suggested that I post it as my own tune. Bryn made a stunning video within hours of my sketch and I realized that these guys don't kid around when they get involved in a project. APOD Never Sleeps. So I took their awesome feedback into consideration and went to work again, mostly working on the vocals, singing in a range that suits me better. I then cracked open my Yamaha V50 synthesizer (that I traded with Montag for my electronic drum pad) and noodled along with some decent synth riffs using a pretty great vintage synth sound. APOD's feedback was positive and their input turned this tune into something I'm proud to be a part of.

Thanks for including me, guys.

Enjoy.

Lyrics
(When I type my lyrics, I use all caps not because I scream my words (necessarily), but so I can sing without wearing my glasses. The headphones squish my head and my peepers dig into my skull. Sorry if it annoys anyone)

THAT GIRL’S GOT
GOO GOO EYES
IT’S A CALAMITY
CAUSING MY DEMISE

AND WHEN SHE LOOKS AT ME
WITH THOSE GOO GOO EYES
I RATHER STARE AT HER
THAN A NEW SUNRISE

SHE KNOCKED MY BLUE TOOTH LOOSE
AS SHE TIGHTENED THE NOOSE
I WATCH HER LICK THE SPOON
AS SHE COOKS MY GOOSE

HAS SHE LOST HER MIND?
IS THERE NOTHING TO FIND?
IF I LOOK AT HER
WILL MY SOUL UNWIND?

THAT GIRL’S GOT
GOO GOO EYES
IT’S A CALAMITY
CAUSING MY DEMISE

AND WHEN SHE LOOKS AT ME
WITH THOSE GOO GOO EYES
I RATHER STARE AT HER
THAN A NEW SUNRISE

I READ THE CRASH REPORT
AS A LAST RESORT
I SAW THOSE GOO GOO EYES
THEY MADE MY BODY CONTORT
IT’S A STATE OF MIND
SO LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND

THAT GIRL’S GOT
GOO GOO EYES
IT’S A CALAMITY
CAUSING MY DEMISE

AND WHEN SHE LOOKS AT ME
WITH THOSE GOO GOO EYES
I RATHER STARE AT HER
THAN A NEW SUNRISE

THAT GIRL’S GOT
GOO GOO EYES

That gurgly synth bass sound rules. In fact all the synth sounds rock. This one is just an all around keeper! Downloaded!

Gurgly Synth
Michael made 98% of the sounds you're hearing. I honestly didn't want to ruin it by adding anything! He's so full of music.

Thanks,

Bob

nice one
i had fun doing that bass sound. it's done with the ES2 in Logic and I automated the resonance a bit to give it that slurpy sound. forget what else I used though. this sounds great Bob.

it's a state of mind.
That's the right balance, I guess. Great mood in the vocals. Your additions are subdued but spot on. And I could listen to M2's fat line for hours.

I wish you hadn't said that
the caps explanation was just too prosaic. I rather liked the idea that they were in caps because you shouted ;) TBH I have the same issues but use a 2nd monitor to display the lyrics in a BIG font.

I also rather liked this track. Great hypnotic sounds and matching lyrics with the unique BD delivery.

Wonderful stuff Bob!

Cheers

This is a great listen Bob with somewhat silly lyrics and slurpy bass, and I like it! Thanks.

you know bob, i believe i agree with vic that this might be the best piece i've ever heard from you. and i don't think i've ever heard a song of yours i didn't like a whole lot - so i guess that speaks volumes. very cool backstory - thanks!

goo goo good good
New laid back sound works very well...not that I don't like your other stuff.
The higher backing vocals work really well and fit perfectly.
Great collab with you and the APOD guys
cool track
cheers

i love that fat, farty bass
and the fact that you used the line 'she cooks my goose'. your vocals sound killer. has a B-52's vibe for me for some reason. you need some girl backup singers. ask Santa.

Peepers ..
squashed or otherwise this is great. I remember this when it first came out next year and was a big hit with Japanese robotics engineers at the Fukuyama conference 2012. It's a shame it wasn't picked as the Olympic anthem for London as it would have saved us £40 million. All that said this is a wonderfully sideways trip into the 80's via quantum musical theory.
I might like it.

it rocks
Fantastic synth sounds and singing.
I especially liked the high pitched robotic beeps. That was neat.
I found the whole arrangement quite dynamic and fun to listen to... thanks for posting!

Bob,
you have so much energy that you must throw off sparks whenever you are engaged in doing something. The sound APOD gave this makes me think of a satellite singing as it makes its ways through the stars. A love song like no other. Thanks.
