What Child Is This?

Description
This is one of my all-time favorite melodies, also known as Greensleeves. While searching for something else recently I came across a midi file of the tune and have spent a day or two enjoyably playing with it. I've rearranged, changed instruments (the "choir" is the Angel Choir preset of the free Alchemy Player synth), added a few effects, changed a note or three, and happily present this as a holiday offering. Enjoy!

Favourite melody
This is a beautiful melody - it's one of the tunes that I love either to play or to listen to. Your version, with the choir and bells, picks up the religious dimension - just right for the season! Much enjoyed.

nicely done
bells ring in the new year... very nice arrangement. The sharp synths create a chill in the air, and the bells and harmonies warm it back up again. Hints at Mannheim Steamroller.

Good thing I didn't leave it chill then, what with winter coming on. And I'm thinking the MS hints are a good thing. Thanks Eduard.

Very nice indeedy
...Greensleeves unfortunately in the UK has been so much used and abused ....specifically bloody ice cream vans with an appallingly mangled chime jingle...it is really quite something to hear it properly played and restored to its rightful splendour.

Cheers

I'd like to think this is better than an ice cream van's chimes, but "rightful splendour"? So happy you like this Chris, thanks.

A classic tune
very well arranged (the bells might be a touch loud though ;) )

I liked the introduction of the "heavy" bass towards the end.

Cheers

I enjoy all of the instruments
that you introduce through out the piece. It does have a slightly 'chilly' feel to it. (Or it could be that my computer is in the furthest corner from the furnace vent.) Anyway, thanks for posting this Christmas favorite!

Lovely
Even if it is a tune that you come across maybe a tad too often, this is a very sweet version and I even opted for a "private" copy... Well done and thanks!

(Greensleeves was included as an example tune in the first midi-program I had on a computer, a Macintosh Performa 6200(?). It was called ConcertWare and I actually found the CD in the cupboard now. Not possible to use anymore of course, but kept for sentimental reasons I suppose.)

Take care,
Henke

Robin Hood's alter ego...
Nice take on this one, Richard. The flute/plucked strings immediately had me in mind of Robin Hood (and maybe even Maid Marion :-). Nice arrangement. Regards, Peter.

What a pleasing job you've done with this. Wasn't Henry VIII credited with writing this. Perhaps he should have stuck to being a musician.
