My buddy and fellow macjammer Kindeldid an interesting collab on the lyrics in this one. I mumbled some word like noises over the tracks and sent them to him to decipher and come up with lyrics. He called me to say that he thought he had some for it and that also he thought that I should see a shrink.
We bounced the words back and forth a few times and ended up with these.
This song is also my first post using the Trilian Bass by Spectrasonics. It was a little pricey but... dang!

By Paul Silva and Steve Kindel

In a small town you're somethin special
livin and laughin but sometimes you gotta go
mind says don't go for a ride
you'll only wind up hatin yourself
for the things that you don't know

I had to run from it lately
it was showin up in my eyes
but i've given lots of thought
i heard a lot of talk but
i'm on the fence, should i bet on the diamond?

out on the road all the ghosts come callin
fill my head with things that don't matter anymore
they leave my thoughts on the cold half
willin, wantin, searchin, sellin for some way to shave the score

no sight, no sound, no smile, no frown
no sign from the heavens tellin where to go
throw it out there anyhow
either way you know the river's gonna flow

That's some bass!

I like the groove and the acoustic is sounding good.

Some nifty acoustic lead as well.

Nicely played chaps :-)

I was wanting to tell a friend the story of why you had to change your name but I could remember the details. Didn't somebody threaten to sue you?

You had me from the opening chords and the rest of the song doesn't disappoint. Beautiful guitar playing and they work together well. They have a really bright tone, too. Love the solo that comes in around 2:10. Excellent bass (sound and playing). Interesting lyrics and great vocal. Impressive music - thanks for the download!

feel to this for me, for some reason. A summer, open quality, travelling through sunny, unthreatening country. What a good thing in the middle of winter!

Even caribbean, now that i get towards the end of the song. Calypso.

Lovely. Thanks guys.

I mean it in a good way...
...when I say that the groove and the vocal on this really reminds me of jiguma (Neil)...The acoustic guitar strum against the bass has a lot of that sort of feel...

That being said, I really like the groove itself--the acoustic guitars on top, spread left and right, with that perfect pulse of a bass is really great. The shaker and whatever that chime is that pops up from time to time all fit without cluttering anything. That Trillian bass has wonderful tone...played in on a keyboard?

Great acoustic lead. The flurry of notes that starts is nicely dramatic after the somewhat more laid back main bit...

thanks Ed,
being in the same genre with Jiguma is a very good place to be, thanks! I wrote that bass part on an acoustic bass that I made but my execution was lacking so I just copied the part using the pencil tool in the editor. I'm just scratching the surface of the Trilian it is a fantastic tool. I love it so far.

about 2007 I received the gift of a presonus firepod. That launched me back into a love of music that I hadn't realized I'd been missing. Since then I've been writing and learning the craft of recording and mixing. I am now in two acoustic groups-... [see more]
