Description
Anyone not familiar with Ed "Slo-Parts" Wemmerus should go visit his page and have a listen; then you can come back to this song. But spend some time there and drink it all in - you won't be disappointed! http://www.macjams.com/artist/sloparts

Ed was a great guy and a terrific musician and producer. I was on Skype on Christmas Day 2010 and Ed popped on to say hi and Merry Christmas. Then he got talking to my wife and daughter. Then we got talking about music, playing, recording. Then on to instruments owned, that sort of thing. Then on to a guitar he was thinking of buying.…. I think the quick "hi" lasted well over an hour! During that time, Ed encouraged me to "graduate" from Garageband to Logic for my music recording and told me all the great things it can do, delivered with his usual enthusiasm and impish sense of humour. We had a great chat that day.

Some months later, some of you on the site may recall a post from GuyGrooves saying Ed was having a tough time of it in his fight with cancer and could really use our positive thoughts at that time. Guy and Ed are as close to being brothers as makes no difference. My idea was to write a quick comedy song to send to Ed to cheer him up, pretending to complain about all the headaches Logic's given me since I started using it at his suggestion and lord knows I wasn't stuck for subject matter! (yeah, thanks Ed….huh!) Unfortunately, again as some of you will recall, against a tidal wave of good wishes on Guy's post, a few days later Guy updated to say that Ed had sadly passed on. So my song was too late. Then I hit on the idea of continuing on with it anyway and thought it only apt to ask Guy if he'd like to join me on the song. Of course he said yes, and in spite of both our grieving processes we worked on it over the following months. I won't say either of us found it easy but the focus was to keep happy thoughts about Ed and enjoy the music. Typical of Ed, even after he'd passed he enabled me to enjoy some great music and find a terrific new friend in Guy. We even got a nudge from Ed not so long ago to say he liked the tune!

I hope you enjoy the song and it makes you laugh and smile. The idea isn't to feel sad or dwell on Ed's passing but to think fondly of a good friend and great musician. The image above is of Ed helping a fantastic young band, the 357 band from Barling, Arkansas record their music. Doing what Ed loved best, helping people make music together. A YouTube link to one of their videos is http//www.youtube.com/... and I encourage you to check them out.

I've included the chords to the song with the lyrics (assuming they line up right)so you can do the Slo-Parts boogie too, wherever in the world you are. Please do!

Ed, put down your golden harp a minute and pick up your ear trumpet. This one's for you! One more time, be well and be cool.

Stephen

Lyrics
E7. A7. E7.
On the 25th the call came down the line. Slo-Parts on Skype, how could I decline?
E7. B7. A7.
Season's greetings and wishing me well, then we got on to music as you can probably tell

E7. A7.
To do the Slo-parts boogie, add a little woogie!
E7. B7. A7. E7.
From Barling down to Chattanooga, they're doing the Slo-parts boogie

E7. A7. E7.
A wiser man from a different land, he said "Now listen son, give up your Garageband.
E7. B7. A7.
Try some Logic and you'll soon see if you be well and be cool you can rock like me"

E7. A7.
And do the Slo-parts boogie, add a little woogie!
E7. B7. A7. E7.
From Fort Smith down to Chattanooga, they're doing the Slo-parts boogie

Yes sir!
A. E. B7.
It's got an amp designer and a pedalboard and other features that you can't ignore
E. E7. A. Am.
Knobs and dials and quantising things, placeable mics for amps with springs
E7. B. F#. B7.
A library of loops for you to choose and lots of other stuff that I still can’t use

E7. A7.
To do the Slo-parts boogie, add a little woogie!
E7. B7. A7. E7.
From Brooklyn down to Chattanooga, they're doing the Slo-parts boogie

E7. A7. E7.
Ed's forgotten more than I ever could store. Music comes out of his every pore.
E7. B7. A7.
Music comes from his fingers and it comes from his toes and when he has a cold, man it comes out his nose

E7. A7.
To do the Slo-parts boogie, add a little woogie!
E7. B7. A7. E7.
From London back to Chattanooga, they're doing the Slo-parts boogie

Yes sir!
A. E. B7.
Now brother Ed knows what he's talking about. He kicks a killer jam so no need to doubt
E. E7. A. Am.
But I've got manuals, tutorials, interfaces and peripherals.
E. B7. F#. B7.
My shelves are groaning with all kinds of stuff and no matter how much it never seems enough

E7. A7.
To do the Slo-parts boogie, add a little woogie!
E7. B7. A7. E7.
From China round to Chattanooga, they're doing the Slo-parts boogie
E7. A7.
Ya do the Slo-parts boogie, add a little woogie!
E7. B7. A7. E7.
From Barling down to Chattanooga, they're doing the Slo-parts boogie

What a great song. The lyrics are full of joy and happiness - a wonderfully fitting tribute. Excellent recording. First-rate guitar work and a top vocal. Excellent work!

Thanks Philip. The idea was to focus on the great guy Ed was that we all knew, not to lament his passing. I did enjoy playing those guitar parts, although that solo took me a ridiculously longer time to record than it really ought to - bad day at the office maybe! =) Thanks for your support and kind comments Philip.

He would have cracked a smile at this....more than anyone his support was brilliant...he stuck with me when I was producing some absolute sh**e.....still am but Ed always had a kind word and maybe a gentle point at where it could be bettered.Good stuff ...I appreciate the lyrics and chord sheet ...will print it off and have a little jam to the download...and have a think about what Ed would have said....

Cheers Jarvo. He did the same for me - I looked back at one of the first ones I put up here, which was appalling with production mistakes a deaf mute could spot but he praised the tune and gave me advice on how to improve it, bless him and then came back to listen to the updated mix and acknowledged it (it was still sh**te, frankly). Hope you enjoy the jam along! Thanks for stopping by to have a listen.

Such a tender moment in your life
The backstory alone is poetic and amazing. That you would continue with this and share it with the world speaks volumes on the viability of MacJams and the opportunity it provides to 'create value' while expressing art. Wonderful musical tribute to a person wjho obviously touched your soul my friend. Thank you for your amazing humanism thoughtfully expressed through your 'Value Creating' art!

Thanks Fahitiha. I really appreciate your thoughts and kind comments on this. Macjams is a very special place full of some really great people who will go over and above to help you out, surprising you every time. Ed touched a great many souls here and is sorely missed. All credit to Ed for being the person he was and to Guy for helping bring this to life. Cheers for your comments here - It makes me realise it was worthwhile and people "get" what we were trying to achieve.

great concept and execution guys.

garageband is just fine in retrospect. logic fried my arm with all the tiny tweaks. poor ergonomics = rsi
