Description
I have a long, long list of ideas that I scratch down for potential songs. Some are one or two word ideas, some are song titles derived from spam, some are misheard things that really tickled me, and on and on. Last year I read the entire 66 books of the bible. First time I ever did that and believe me, every chance I have, I tell people that "I read 66 books last year!" lol! As I spent about 30 minutes reading every morning, I read amazing and often unbelievable things. I highlighted plenty of lyrical/song ideas, some of which have already appeared in previous tunes. This song idea came from a couple of verses that I totally related to. "I do not understand why I do the things that I can not stand...."

It really struck a chord with me.

Enjoy!

Lyrics
You didn't know me
But you gave it all to me
You didn't owe me
But you did it all for free

I'm a mixed up criminal kid
and my head's not screwed tight
to it's lid
I can not pay you back
For what I did

I do not understand
Why I do the things
That I cannot stand?
(You didn't know me)
(You didn't owe me)

And the things I wish to do
Are the things that I'm sure
I will never do
(You didn't know me)
(You didn't owe me)

I do not do
What I want to do
But I do the very thing
That I hate to do
(You didn't know me)
(You didn't owe me)

And the things I wish to do
Are the things that I'm sure
I will never do

break

You didn't know me
You didn't owe me
You didn't know me
You didn't owe me

You didn't know me
But you gave it all to me
(You didn't know me)
(You didn't owe me)

You didn't owe me
But you did it all for free
(You didn't know me)
(You didn't owe me)

I'm a mixed up criminal kid
and my head's not screwed tight
to it's lid
I can not pay you back
For what I did
(You didn't know me)
(You didn't owe me)

For the good
That I want to do
I do not do
But the evil
That I don't want to do
That's what I do

Wretched Man That I am
Who will deliver me?

At times
reminded me a little of the Doors, in a good way. Interesting and arresting piece of music that has light and dark shades in the beat which complement nicely the agonised conflicted lyrics.

Impressed that you read through the 66 books. Can you remember how many times 'begat' appears? (Assuming you read the KIng James?) ;-)

Cheers now

Marc

Dude
You're becoming that kick back, sit back and take it in the face kind of artist. These last two have been your best.

Tell me, what's different? What have you been doing?
Your tunes are soooo smooth. Especially lately.

duality
Boy, those guitars(?) at the beginning are strange,
Some weird pitch shifter harmony going on?
Anyway, love the lyrics and the tune.
and the vocal interplay gives the impression of duality.
Cool stuff
cheers

yeah but you protestant-cheated and skipped the apocrypha. I kept hearing 'free delivery' at the end which I thought was really witty. Don't know if you're actually saying that or not. It also made me imagine Jesus as a pizza delivery guy only on the box it says 'forgiveness' which would make a great t-shirt.

you do the things that you can't stand because they're more interesting than the things you know you should be doing. that's why it's so tough to be a good little monkey. now i'm seeing Jesus as the Guy in the Yellow Hat.

cool tune dude. I really like what you've been doing lately with the layered vocals. also with the guitar. i think you're actually getting funky.

Paul said that
I found the book of Numbers to very exciting just kidding, I read the bible from genesis to revelations , The book of Daniel is one of my favorites Love the phrasing in your singing also love the fact that I can hear the Hum from your Bass or Guitar, Im glad you included a break it lead into the Chorus and flows into the rest of the song There is a guitar line that sounds real familiar

Great song and thanks for the download!

Hello five_extra_arms
Good/bad or left/right or ... whatever direction it seems it has to be definitively obsolet today...Keep going onto THE direction you feel it is good. Especially with music it cannot be wrong in any way.

what about
the 14 books of the Book of Mormon? I think it's 14. You'll have to tell me. Dig this: I'm such a 5EA fan that I know "derived from spam" refers to, among others, "Monstrosity Alabama" (a fav of mine). So there.

That's a wretched tone on the lead line. Then the booty bass comes in and gives you impure thoughts. Get's really spacey at the end. Total freakout. Like that.
