Description
they..... are the strangers that visit the little business district where i work. all types walk by, from the bizarre to the norm and to the regulars. one is a dead ringer for napoleon dynamite, possibly in search for tots

the photo is of my dad as a kid. with some photoshop manipulation of course

Lyrics
Who Are They That Come

i know they are out taking pictures
and i know they are out making plans
i can see them in the stairwell
and i caught them shaking hands

who are they that come to show their face
who are they that come to invade my space
who are they that come
who are they

i know they come with painted smiles
and i saw them stand in brainwashed crowds
and do they travel or stay in place
or are they rooted underground
who are they

who are they that come to show their face
who are they that come to invade my space
who are they that come
who are they

i know they will slip once in a while
and i can see them when their guard is down
i know they are out making plans
and i know they are here hanging around
who are they

who are they that come to show their face
who are they that come to invade my space
who are they that come
who are they

Who Are They That Come
Well done tune. Nice vocals and interesting lyrics. I think I can hear that gibson sg rip thru 'cause it has that warm thick sound. I have always been a fender guy but I would love an sg. Sounds like you doubled the crunchy chords panned left ... sounds great! Man the production on this is excellent ... that wah wah rocks. Real art rock piece with a great performance ... oh and good job with the drums. Real good stuff Vic.
Cheers

suprisingly sg's aren't so dark as a les paul. the clean guitar lines are the sg. it's tone can range from dark mellow jazz to quite bright. and it's easy on the shoulder due to it's light weight. thanks fro the kind words

They That Come...
Very artistic...like a rock opera...that wah-wah by Morley was a much sought after tool and you are workin' it...guitars never clash, vocals ride high in the saddle, all the way to

the morley wah is a big beast. kind of a beefier tone, maybe because it's ac powered, not battery powered. it was cool to dig it out...... it's been sitting quite for a good 7 or 8 years

this started more as a therapy song. after not being able to play guitar very much over the past 6 weeks, due to injury, i finally was able to start playing again. the practice bits started taking form and this is where it ended up.

No idea but they can't be all bad if it gets you writing stuff like this.

A very different sound again. Lots of vocal effects and even a choir?

Quality work Vic.

You make complicated arrangements sound clear and spacious, Vic. Your Floyd-like vocals work very nicely against the crunchy guitars. The light and shade you develop in the song is first-rate as well. Nice one. Take care, Peter.

plenty of guitar tracks for sure. it occured to me that i haven't heard a solo with a wah for a very long time, especially on this site. it was a cool feeling to dust of the old morley wah and rock it.

Vic in top form
This comes across as big, bold, and nicely diversified as you flow from one section to the next. I could easily imagine this being performed live at an outdoor festival one warm evening back a few years. The lyrics just seep into the brain on the wings of your almost psychedelic vocal treatment. The guitar work is alive and nuanced, the choir pad gives this an old school feel, and the whole production is wrapped up in a sonic bow that says "Download me!".

Hit it out of the park Vic!

Thanks,
Doug

This song really sounds great in the headphones - great way to wake up this morning! You did an interesting job of creating this ambience of mystery in the verses, with all the effects, and the vocal chorus as well. Nice guitar work.

And as always, a style that is unmistakably VH! Enjoyed - thanks!

Has a Floyd vibe for me. Strong imagery in the lyric "painted smiles", "brainwashed crowds". I like the phrasing on the vocals. Guitar lines complement each other well, and the sound choices really stand out in the mix.

doesn't look like someone to mess with... I think it's the sleeves and suspenders. :)

Cool tune Vic. The theme reminds me of of the throngs in an airport or bus station - people watching is always an interesting thing.

Watch out for the Morley!
I'm on a big run of catchup - glad I caught this. Typical VH - great guits, production and vox. Like the wonky feel that comes in occasionally with the riffs doing odd things against odd chords in the verse. Very disorienting.
Terrific tune!

Neil

The pulse of distrust
I totally dig the "show their face" stanzas, the chugging groove, and the tone of the lead in the instrumental solo is classic and just right. The sense of foreboding and cynical distrust works throughout. It seemed that the verse sections had moments of intended unusual rhythmic disconnections between the meter and the melody expression, but some didn't work in my ears, felt like missteps in a song with otherwise such a strong 8th note pulse. But the overall sound and concept transcends nitpicks and succeeds. Thanks for sharing you limitless inspiration.
