Interesting
synth work in this. I also like the percussion, and the cool manipulations of tempo. You certainly know how to create a mood.

Naw Mr. C
No wall flowers please, stand up for something, while you still have the opportunity, or, none will stand for anything and all will have no chance.

i'm beginning to see that no matter how much i may the opening, i can count on some bit of sweetness later on for that extra touch. happened right around the 2 min mark in this one.

Hello Sam
It's a production decision. Feel free to adopt the notion. Forces one to come up with a steady flow ideas that fit together... There are no two portions of this piece that are the same harmonically. The near tonality is respected, except in the guitar solos, that second one, with the statements in descending thirds, steps out a bit...

Outstanding! You remain the closest thing we have to Zappa. And that's a very good thing! Love the guitar work at :57. I would love to hear this played live by a large band with full sax and brass sections!

Hello Andrew
I missed your support on the last few projects. I am never gonna be FZ. I'm just Daug. Nothing else... The big band to play this would cost a fortune to rehearse.
The trumpet parts would require top players. That vibe section uses three mallet technique, so you better get some top drawer money for that seat as well.
Hearing this performed live would be amazing... Thanks for dropping by...

Daug ... what a strange opening. What are you smoking' down there That change at 2:00 with that bass line is very cool. That synth brass sound works wonders to my ears. I admire your production skills.
Cheers

Now Stan
What did you find so strange about the opening bit? Standard Daug stuff really...lol. In most of my posted pieces, you are stepping into something that is already up and running. I thought the bit was funny considering current events.
Glad you enjoyed the cameo. That was to give the horns a break, they would need it after that first two minutes of blow, ditto for the guitar sections.
This arrangement came together very easily. As with most of things I make there are many versions of this one. This one was subtitled "Plain Jane".

Thought I tasted G. Clinton in the intro, then some J. Lorber...but you have went to Zappa and beyond as this moves along...Horns remind me of the M.O.I. your arrangement skills are "frontier horizon" and I luv what you've done here...always earcandy in your vacinity my friend...Bammmm!!...:):):)peace

Hey Erin
"It's a fact", dropping them names! You and I might be the only ones who know who Lorber might be around here, (no insult intended :) I will wear that sign as easily as the FZ sign folks desire to categorize me with... What a brave and overlooked talent! Thanks for the good words.

Wizardry
You are a master at getting contradictory elements to work together - warm sounds followed by rusty nail edgy sounds; sweet melody then piercing discordance. Not sure what makes it work, but it does. Continuously engrossing.

Hey Philip
Thanks for dropping by to listen. This piece includes most of the outside harmony modern ears find acceptable. For example the last section moves in tritones. This kind of music works only if the listener is ready for new sonics. Keep hanging around the Dog House diggin it... can't go back to four pulses in a cliche form with square harmony... your ears will rebel, and slap ya!

Man.....You are Maaaaaaad....
This out there on the edge of nowhere, hahaha but some how
you made it go somewhere....

Solid piece of work.....You and Abzworks should get together both
of you are in the same zone..... Out There... :-)

Hey SH!
Not mad my friend. No way to make something like this if what you do is halfway repeat yourself continually with the expectation that the results will change. Which is the definition of insanity. What I do is not for everyone. Thanks for listening, and I am glad you enjoyed the ride. That's an interesting suggestion about working with Abzworks... maybe I could write something for him to solo over? Andy will be jealous!

ok
so here's the deal.... really no base to comment on the excellent production here. you always have this covered. once again...zappa...no... something different. i don't think anyone can appreciate your talent unless they see u play live. love the title. this is cool.

Hello DA
So this is the deal... I make these things with the tools available to me. I post them with the expectation that other people might enjoy them. As noted in Andrews comment, it is cost prohibitive to put this kind of material on the road.
If it wasn't people would be doing it! The idea that I can play stunt guitar live in front of big band playing material of my own conception is not entirely as seductive as one might imagine. As you can see, not much love being showered by the MJ community...

Hello Tim
Yer right, no weed. POTUS made use of the phrase, in the context of that usage, I applied the phrase to the premise behind this tune. I guess you enjoyed yourself. It's not crazy- that is so dismissive. I carefully planned and orchestrated this piece to explore modern tonalities and rhythm, and I used the same board I always use... silly guy ;)

Yes Fergie I have been here since the place opened. In fall 2009, I erased the 60+ tunes I had posted since day one. The community here had changed, becoming hateful and repressive, and I needed to respond appropriately. What happened?... [see more]
