Love the sound of the xiao and you play it beautifully. Great backing too. How did you create the backing track?

Backing
That's a couple of guitar loops in Stylus RMX. The first loop is used & shifted down a third. Strange how that works out to give kind of a pentatonic backing. Other loop is more chordal and panned center. The loops are sliced, so I occasionally mix them around a little.

polyrhythmic somehow
i really like the rhythm. i had to tap my foot to convince myself it was in 4/4, it feels like an odd time signature like 7/4 or polyrhythmic somehow.

very nice mood

thank you

poly
The guitar loops are not of an even length. You probably picked up on that.

As I said last night...
I really love the sound of this. I've been puzzling over the stringed instrument since, in my several listens. I love the chime of the Xiao, and I also enjoy the way that you have a somewhat static backing that ends up not feeling static at all...this whole thing feels like MOTION... Contemplative, but full of life... Sages sitting down in outward quiet but with very lively, very aware minds...

Stringed instrument
It's a guitar loop that has a dub delay or something on it, already part of the loop. The first couple of seconds are the straight loop, then I start mixing in stuff.

I'm pleased with how the flute came out. It's a very pretty instrument.

I had things backwards...
Thanks for not outing me on that one. I was thinking that the xiao was one of those Chinese zither-like instruments rather than the flute itself... I've got it straight now...

Brilliant backing track
really a good choice and well put together. Te Xiao sounds fantastic. Really nice lines and patient use of the space you've created. One of my favorites from you - so glad I dropped by.

An education and
an entertainment, several times it sounds as though it is going into Genesis mode a la Peter Gabriel's flute ,which is a great thing for me and then it pulls back into the swirly oriental inspired delight that it is.

Cool Piece
I love the different layers of this piece. I almost feel like it could be turned into a Coldplay song. (In my opinion, that's a good thing since I like their music.) Nice work!

Nice - now I know what a Xiao is:)
This mixes together pretty well - In a few spots - like about 1:40 the tone is a little off key - not sure that's a bad thing, adds some tension but its noticeable. I think any traditional flute is supposed to drift into and out of tune in places.

key
The instrument had a note or two that I couldn't bend into place. As I was playing I thought "I'll fix that with Melodyne", but listening to it afterwards it didn't bother me enough. The instrument is what it is, occasional off notes and all.
