Wayfaring Stranger

Description
I love this old spiritual. Micheal Wark sent me the chord arrangement way back when. I took it and gave it my take. Thinking of our dear ones that have passed on... well, it gives one pause. Listen, and let me know if it strikes a chord for you. It does for me...

A further tweaked remix from 2006 and 2011.

Lyrics
I am a poor wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world of woe
There's no sickness, no toil nor danger
In that bright land to which I go

Chorus:
Yes I'm going over Jordan
Just going, no more to roam
Only going over Jordan
Just going to my home

I know dark clouds will gather round me
I know my way is rough and steep
But golden fields lie out before me
Where all the saints their vigils keep

Chorus:
I'm going there to meet my father
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just going over the river Jordan
I'm going over to my home

I want to wear a crown of glory
When I get home to that bright land
I want to shout Salvation's story
In concert with that blood-washed band

Chorus:
I'm going home to meet my mother
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just going over the river Jordan
I'm going over, I'm going home

I'll soon be free from earthly trials
This body rests in the orchard's yard
I'll drop this cross of self-denial
And go singing home to my God

Chorus:
I'm going there to see my Saviour
To sing His praise for evermore
I'm just-a going over Jordan
I'm going over to my home

I'm a just a wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world of woe
There's no sickness, no toil no danger
In that bright land to which I go

Hi Feter
The guitar was a Strat knock-off I use to own. The bass part I did was with the pencil tool via GarageBand. Nice to have you stop by!

The acoustic was an Applause with the Zoom A2 effects.

Wayfaring stranger
I like the echoey guitar. Emotive vocal. Bass and drums drive things well. Beautiful song; striking performance.

Philip...
Glad to know you like this. Like so many of my songs, there wasn't a plan. It just sort of unfolded as I laid down the various tracks. The mixing was the real work. Best reagards to you...

The Wark...
is indeed missed.

We're all sojourning in this life. Hopefully, one day, crossing over the Jordon to the Land.

Folking...
Blond on blond some more, your killin' me Jack! This lens you have held up here is very different from the one on display in "Who dat?" We could debate the visions, but it is better to let the music do the talking...
As usual your production is spot on...

I would love...
To discuss that, and more. Music, indeed, communicates and bridges the chasms.

Keep on, and thanks for taking time...

Whoever originally wrote this
is probably smiling at your contemporary arrangement, especially the very intricate bass line you string throughout the performance. It is always cool to hear a much different arrangement of a classic. You capture the flavor of the original very well with your clear and effective vocal which is easy to understand without necessity of having the text printed. That's a big plus in my book.

Poor Wayfaring Stranger
A different take on a classic, Jack, but it works well. The country rock style and unusual drum beat give the song a different texture to that it is often heard in but it gives it a contemporary feel and breathes new life into the song. Thanks, Peter.

The drum beat thing...
was by chance, just happening onto the drum loop. Plugging it in was a pleasant surprise. Thanks, Peter, for listening!

Very nice Jack. The guitars have a beautiful chime, almost 12 string like. The rocking bass and drums drive the song well. Like The Band backing Dylan. Strong vocal. Nice mix.

The acoustic guiter effects...
were via the Zoom A2. I can't remeber what effect combo I chose, but it did give it that jangly 12 string feel. And once again, your mention of The Band is much too kind. I love that band.

Thanks,
Jack
