Traveler's Blues

Description
Song number 50 on MacJams. Who'd have thought! It's a standard blues tune. I put in the reference to Texas because it's place that fascinates me. I've only been there once, but it was a bit like watching a movie. And songs like George Strait's "Somewhere Down In Texas" or Chris Rea's "Texas" or Jerry Jeff Walker's "What I Like About Texas" or Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson's Luchenbach Texas all added to the illusion. The photo was taken on a visit to Dallas.

The song has the usual number of guitars (lots) and the harp is played by my good friend Peter Thorneycroft.

I hope you enjoy listening!

Lyrics
Traveler’s Blues

I’m standing on the corner, I can feel the rain
I’m standing on the corner, I can feel the rain
I am heading out of town, I won’t be back again.

Think I’ll go to Texas, and I’ll be travelling light
Think I’ll go to Texas, and I’ll be travelling light
Hoping I can hitch a ride, find a bed to sleep tonight

So many people tell me, what I’m supposed to do
Do this, don’t do that
Get your head out of the clouds and put your shoulder to the wheel
Feel I’m on a treadmill like some rat

All the rules we live by, all the laws they make
All the rules we live by, all the laws they make
They want things put together, but seem to make them break

Instrumental

City full of big machines, screeching out their noise
Do this, don’t do that
Keep your feet right on the ground, your mind upon the job
Jumping over hurdles like a cat!

Can’t wait for tomorrow, another brand new day
I can’t wait for tomorrow, to see another day
Hoping that the road I’m on will be a better way

Traveler's Blues
It is not anywhere as easy as it seems to produce a quality, road-worn blues rocker but you have managed it here, Philip. Pete's harp is the frosted icing on the cake. That boy can play. Nice balanced mix. And not a guitar solo in sight... :-) Solid post. Regards, Peter.

I have to admit I have fiddled with this one a fair bit - a few guitar solos were tried and rejected! The harmonica seemed to make more sense! See you soon.

This one
does have that 'busker' feel, but i think that's something to do with the reverb.... i could imagine you performing this at the base of one of those columns in the photo, I'm sure you'd get a similar sound.... always love a blues song and you do it well Philip, cheers M

Glad you enjoyed it, Maurice. I suspect if I started playing near those columns, all the guys on their phones would be telling me to keep quiet! Thanks for listening and for taking the time to comment - much appreciated!

Traveler's Blues
Not what I was expecting from the title. To my ears this is a kinder gentler blues. It has your signature sound all the way, which I happen to enjoy very much.Good one Philip.

Traveler
Nice catchy tune. I thought of our current elections here in the USA when you sang this line:
All the rules we live by, all the laws they make
All the rules we live by, all the laws they make
They want things put together, but seem to make them break.
Congrats on #50. Keep them coming!

nicely done.

Jam in the kitchen
Thanks for the compliments, Chris. Of course you may jam along with it - and if you'd like me to send you a version with some things taken out to give you more room to work in, let me know! Be careful of that painting - once you start, each room looks shabby compared to the freshly painted one...

Hi Stan
Thanks for stopping by! There was a guitar solo at one stage, but we dropped it because it was getting too busy - I think the harp suits the song so we went with that! Good to hear from you - I'm always interested in your perceptions and comments.

Better not go there: there's nothing really there....

Anyway, yes TX is a bit larger than life and there's definitely a lot to be fascinated by. I really enjoyed this bit of road song.

Traveler's Blues
The roll with the punches attitude of the lyric is matched by the rock n' roll energy of the backer. I like the easy phrasing of the lyric. Harp is a nice touch.
