Description
Recorded live on All Hallows Eve (Halloween) last year in a graveyard beside a church near my home, this song captures the sounds of various insects, animals, birds, and lost souls that populate this sacred place on these magic evenings. While it does have a certain foreboding, apprehensive and generally dark flavour, it is not spooky or fearsome but is, in fact, a celebration of life lived.

Oh, okay; it's actually three Alchemy synth tracks, but I prefer my original, fanciful, description. However you want to hear it, I hope you enjoy it. To me, it is a very atmospheric tone-poem depicting a late evening in Autumn. I was going to post closer to the 31st but it really isn't spooky enough for Halloween, so here it is now. The photo was taken from the web but I couldn't find an attribution, which is surprising since it is rather stunning.

Yes,
it isn't scary. But it does bring to mind activity going on but unseen in the dark of night. If you were walking in a graveyard and heard this you'd try to brush the whatever it was away from your face. It might be scary if you added vocals like "Get out!" or "Can I borrow a couple thousand, bro?" Then, you might want to run. Thanks, Richard.

I like the overall effect of this - generally peaceful with some darkness form the building synth. The pan flute sort of sound is pretty and adds a different character. Clear mix. Good one, Richard!

However

Very well put together.

Tangy
... in a Dreamy - like way, if you get my drift. It does exactly what you wanted it to do. It's atmospheric, but not spooky enough for Halloween. I think Paula's suggestions would help if you're mad keen on the idea of celebrating the 31st!

Only
three tracks! Ah! The power of the synths. It's amazing that you got such a full sound from just three tracks. But it's a wonderful full sound at that. Full of atmosphere and very cinematic. Very good mix too, crystal clear. Like it loads.

Hi Richard.....
I think that you've got a great mix here. I enjoyed the mysterious, Middle Eastern melody, and the excellent accompaniment. The Alchemy synth is a beast, but one you seem to have tamed.

Great idea by the way but this piece is way off the 'spooky' mark. Life lived is a perfect sentiment for this journey of introspection.

Take care.

Thanks Richard
Really enjoyed this one, especially since I played with Alchemy on the iPad yesterday (without any lasting results, just for fun). And it IS amazing that you can get all this out of three tracks...

A download without any hesitation :-)

Thanks again and take care,
Henke

I prefer the minds eye description, too, Richard. There are definitely elements of tension wafting in and out but these are contrasted by the ethereal synths (good spirits?) floating over the scene. Evocative, to be sure. Thanks for the post. Kind regards, Peter.

Layered.
You bring out so many nuanced narratives in this track. The penny whistle is the subtle constant, but there are multiple stories represented by the instruments and their unique melodic lines that somehow coexist in this very interesting and somewhat spooky soundscape. I think you have accomplished exactly what you intended, and have done so with some very precise mixing and overlaying of disparate elements that ultimately coalesce. Nicely done and much enjoyed.

3 Tracks?
Wow, you really know how to put together something minimally that sounds expansive. I have used probably 20 tracks to get something like this with LOTS of sound auditioning along the way.

However, I'm not surprised since you have got the knack my friend. I love how this rolls along and I feel right in the middle of it all - the rising moon, the trees, the insects.

Well conceived and put together!

Doug

PS - I just bought Alchemy and am really curious about the patches or packages you used on this piece if you're willing to give up a little of your secret sauce. It's an amazing synth, no?
