Description
After my last song with Dave's (Damroze) lyrics I was pleased when he asked me to work with him again. These lyrics though tongue in cheek are a serious warning for all who insist on driving and using the phone. Nothing drives me more wild than getting behind a driver who's driving too slow and then after a couple of miles it dawns on me why his hand is to his / her ear.... drives me crazy. Well this is a little ditty to bring home what can happen when people do that..... oh yes and you can dance to it too

Lyrics
Hang Up Your Cell Phone and Drive
( lyrics byDavid Damroze)

Rob drove his car across the yellow line

Ran over Mary and crushed her spine

It wasn't lack of sleep or too much booze

He was talking to a friend about his new pair of shoes

Tiffany T-boned a Sunday school bus

The parents at the church they made quite a fuss

Tiffany was texting a friend at the time

about American idols new broadcast time

Hang up Your cell phone and drive

Maybe you'll get home alive

Help someone else to survive

Just hang up your cell phone and drive

Old Annie Johnson was crossing the street

When she got run over by a man in a jeep

He was getting impatient couldn't wait anymore

Surfin on his iphone for the baseball score.

Mike the Marine survived Iraq

Afghanistan and a shot in the back

But didn't last long after he got home

hit by a driver chatting on a cell phone.

Hang up Your cell phone and drive

Maybe you'll get home alive

Help someone else to survive

Just hang up your cell phone and drive.

Lyrics David Damroze.

Isn't it sad
Isn't it sad that we need to put out these reminders. This is a fun way to get a serious message across! Great job.

I'm
Thinking about writing a song about idiots who throw their cigarette butts out the window... Grrrr
Anyway, This is catchy. I could actually see this accompanying a cartoon/infomercial. Colourful.
Nicely done

Yes Tom
Strange how we can find a bit of humour in these kind of situations and Dave certainly knows how to use words to good advantage. Thanks a lot for listening in, regards M

Haha!
Very catchy. This could certainly be used in a P.I. film, cartoon or otherwise. And you could change the lyrics slightly so they'd fit for the UK too.
"Hang up your mobile and drive..." works. Though maybe "When she got run over by a Landrover..." doesn't! :)

Good stuff, both of you.

Glad you
approve of this Dave and yet regarding the use of words, I still say 'Jeep', because I'm a certain age and that' was what they were called way back when I was young and people bought them as army surplus. It's only since they became modern commercial vehicles, they were name 'Landrover' and is that not a trade name? I don't know. I've heard the words 'cell-phone' too I'm sure, but as you say the words need to fit, regards M

Cross Atlantic production
Maurice, it's so interesting hearing you (and don't be offended if I think of you as the epitome of a Brit MJer) singing such very U.S. oriented lyrics. A juxtaposition that is initially a little disconcerting :) Nicely poppy tune and backing behind some serious words. Hard to believe people actually use their phones while driving (I have a mobile, but rarely carry it - if I do remember, it's inevitably out of battery!).
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Not offended at all Neil
As explained to Dave above, those names were and still are relevant over here too and not just as American-isms. People driving and texting even is quite common over here, even though there are huge fines and points to be gained on the licence,,,,, people can be very self centred. I use a mobile, but in the car I always pull over to answer., Cheers M

Cell Phone
Two days ago an idiot almost collide head on me, I see him that he was fiddling with his cell phone, he would have had that song in the car to remind people how dangerous it is to play with the cell phone while driving.

Great stuff, M. ... Thanks for sharing, be well.

Brilliant production here, Mo. The lyrics and singing obviously but also the little sound FX scoring some extra points ;-) Only nit is I didn't hear the first verse (Rob drove...)?!

Thanks for the copy :-)

Take care out there (you never know who's talking on/to the phone...)

This is why I love
sending lyrics to Maurice. He comes up with totally perfect new perspectives on the words that I would never have thought of. When he sent me the MP3 before posting I literally laughed out loud in delight when I heard the first few bars of a Reggae beat. Thank you again to Mr. Vizard.

Drive-by music...
Play it loud with the windows down as you motor past the egregious offenders. You do a super job with the humor here in your vocal rendition of these lyrics. Chug, chug, chug. I agree: PI for sure. Send it in. Nice change of pace from romance, eh? Another most-enjoyable number, Maurice. You keep churning 'em out. Lucky us.

One day I was riding
the bus in Seattle when we felt this little 'bumpf'. The bus stopped and the driver had everyone get out. A Honda with a somewhat crumpled front end was mashed up against the rear of the bus. The driver of the Honda was sitting on the curb chatting on his cell phone which had a visibly bent antenna.

Now appearing at the Tiki bar...
A light treatment of a really serious topic. You have hit the bullseye on this one Maurice - the vocal harmonies are lovely here and the organ and beat is on the mark as well. You guys definitely should keep collaborating!

wonderful catchy tune about a very serious problem on our roads.
Love the reggae beat and great use of effects that gives the lyrics an even stronger message, especially the crash effect!
