Memories of Marrakesh

Description
Some years ago I had the pleasure of travelling through the country of Morocco spending quite some time there on a very small budget. I remember waking up in Marrakesh with the sun burning hot like fire and from the rooftops which was my sanctuary from the many people below I did the sketch in my handmade sketchbook made from brown paper bags bound with dental floss....
I put this together over the past week and free formed the guitars over the heavy bed that I created using addictive drums.
Thanks for listening

The multi-talented Stan
makes multi-layered music having multiple influences. How cool is that? Very!
The artwork is cool too man, but I'm blown away by your handmade sketchbook. The dental floss is probably still good but how are the pages holding up? At least they won't get much browner ;-)

Fabulous. That bass is killing me. Wait ... it's all killing me. Great ending to cap it all off. More rockin' and rollin' please. You're so good at it. Well, no surprise. You're good at everything you try.

Memories of Marrakesh
I like the variety of the instrumentation in this - for example that one on the right that sort of sounds like a banjo. The guitars that intertwine and shift across the mix are exceptional. The wailing vocal adds to the busy market place effect, too. Impressive work, Stan, as always!

This is too good to just give away for free, Stan. Seriously. The fact that you can come up with a piece so musically dense, "on message" and satisfying and get it to sound so fantastic via GB as a hone recording is little short of amazing. The artwork is skilful and appealing, the song even more so. Long applause. Regards, Peter.

Marrakesh
Love the rich, active soundbed, it really sets the stage for some killer guitar work. The guitars have a bit of Alex Lifeson flavor! Great mix!

Very sensual
and sultry....I love the pulsing bass and am a sucker for the african drums.......drives the whole thing along at a stately gallop...the guitars are intense and glide over the bass like satin .........cooooooooooooll

drawing. Love the perspective and the tone of it. Pretty bouncy tune. You really paint a picture of the color and the mood of the place. Your vocalist and your natural sounds really top it off. Thanks.

Addictive...EVERYTHING
What a great track...filled with unstoppable energy and a wide variety of instruments that all seem so indigenous and completely complimentary. Now and again (in your guitar riffs around 1:40 and 2:30 or so) there is a hint of maybe Morocco, but otherwise I mainly hear a mash-up of some very delicious sounds and a bodacious bass that just pounds down into my bones. ... Oh, that wail at 2:55 is perfect. On final thought: I think you nailed the atmosphere perfectly and still maintained your Hailfaxian roots. This is a very cool and ingenious recording. Nicely done.

Enough energy to power a city!
This really rocks, it has an energetic movement in it that is wonderfully relentless from start to finish. Fantastic guitar playing but not just a set of flash tricks, it fits properly. And a download too; thanks!

Digging that bass groove you've set up to carry the oud loops. Hotness in your wailing guitar solos and the use of the tablas all make me think of a hot country. That drum pack sounds great and your clean production - well let's just say you've not left any room for constructive criticism! :)

Cool ending too BTW

Thanks for the tune Stan,
Doug

Nice track. You did a fine job mixing genres and sounds - your arrangement is very interesting - probably a fav of your stuff for me. Ambitious and provocative guitar work, and it all comes together very nicely. An enjoyable listen - thanks!
