Nobody's Fault But Mine w/ Sigmund

Description
In my Rock and Roll days my band did a lot of Zepplin, one of my favorite rock singers is Robert Plant, so here's my tribute. The guitar solo is by Sigmund, I think he did a fantastic job too. He says he aint a blues player but he sure nailed this one.

Nobody
I have no appropriate adjectives for this. How about "searing"? I'm not familiar with your work, so was knocked out by your vocal performance. Sig may not be a blues player (I can relate) but I would rather hear Sig style than traditional blues style any day of the week. Great to hear him get some time to blaze. Excellent down backdrop, crystal clear mix, full of emotion. Also good to see someone posting longer tunes than mine heh. Tip o' the hat, gents.

oooo- searing!
Searing is good. Thanks Les. Sig is definately a journeyman player. And how about that tone?! It's so nasty I feel like I should get a tetness shot after listening. A real nice guy too, hopefully he'll drop by soon and fill us in on the particulars.

Love it
This is a great, 6/8 slow blues tune. Great rhythm track, excellent vocals, and explosive guitar solos, and pristine production. Congratulations all around for a real nice song.

thank you!
It was a lot of fun making it. My studio's out in the sticks where nobody can hear me screaming like that, otherwise I'm sure the cops would have shown up.

Wow!
An EXCELLENT 10 minute blues, and it is DEFINITELY your fault (with a little help from Sigmund). This might raise a few eyebrows but I am not intimately familiar with Led Zepplin, nonetheless I think I can hear a few ;-) Robert Plant influences in your fabulous vocal performance. Sigmund's guitar here is amazing and complements your vocal beautifully. Superb post man and I have taken a copy, thanks to your generosity.

Marriot- the two greatest rock singers of all time. I don't hold a candle to them, but that's where I learned to sing r n r. Thank you richard!

I
thought it was Mr Plant singing this song. Great vocals and guitars to match, a fine tribute and very much enjoyed.

Now Now
It dont get better slowed down and dirty, reminds me of "since Ive been lovin you" one of my favorite songs, your really belting it out, Sigmund is letting it go the echo on his guitar sounds like hes doubling it up, that was the coolest 10 minutes Ive ever spent on Macjams!

That was indeed the tune
I was goin' for, in fact that was the working title of this. I gotta say when Sig sent that track my first reaction was- "damn that is one huge sounding guitar!" Then I thought "I wish there was more!" I pressed him a bit for some but I know how much work it is to get 30 seconds of good take, so I just put him in there twice. Thanks for the listen and kind words.

Coolness
Zeppelin is a little before my time, but I don't need to get the reference to say that this is pretty damn cool. Your vocals are awesome! I love it! And Sig...well....can't go wrong with Sig. Thanks for sharing.

It was a hoot making this tune, I wasn't sure I could still belt it out like that. Maybe for a little while longer. Many thanks to Sid, he really stepped up for me.

Pretty amazing guys!
Excellent guitars Sigmund, and the vocal is just so Plant-like. While I think this is pretty incredible, I reckon getting a live drummer on board would have lifted it a couple more notches again. Bass and keys work really well, and the recording/production is fantastic - tons of energy and clarity.
Very impressive post! Now go and rest those vocal chords :)
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

thank you Neil
if you know of any drummer that would be willing to put down some tracks I'd be happy to repost! I'm really glad you like the tune. When I hear it I find it hard to believe I used to scream like that 2 or 3 times a week for years, gives me a good case of the grins.

You do a fantastic job with the vocal tribute on this slow burner! Great atmospheric buildup and then you let the Sig loose. Yeah. Quality all the way. I would love to hear this live with some real drums. Put me down for a ticket please. Congratulations. Regards, Peter.

far from what I ever heard from you before Pabs, but it's good to hear another side of you.... excellent performances from both of you.... who knew you had such big lungs? though we had an inkling (joke) that Sig tinkered a little with guitar..... fantastic blues, cheers M

Nobody's Fault But Mine
Wonderful performances ... would have like to hear more of a "When the Levee Breaks" sound on the snare and bass drum .... great feel to the vocals and Sig pulls out a pretty cool free-form solo which is what blues is all about ... feel. Dig the organ ... solid mix... good stuff!!

glad you came by for a listen
Thank you. It was a hoot to make. I couldn't find a kick that had that heavy Bonham foot in my loops, and to be honest, the drums could have used a lot more effort than I put into them. But I got excited and was guilty of a premature upload- something my wife has been complaining of for years.... (rimshot please).

Nobody's Fault
Paul, thank you so much for asking me to be a part of this project. This is a great song, and it was a blast to play on. I know you wanted more guitar, but to be honest a 90 second solo was, imo, more than anyone would be able to tolerate of me lol. Anyway, I think it sounds great, and it was tons of fun to play - thanks again!

Exciting vocal full of energy and angst. Sig's guitar work is a joy to listen to - it bites and jumps and wails and has a great crunchy tone. Very impressive!

So seriously...
..that kinda folkie bluegrass kinda guy that used to hang out here under this name...what have you done with him? Seemed a somewhat gentle soul...

Excellent tribute, guys. I think the vocals get more Plant-esque the deeper in you go... The guitar is flawless...

I'm with Neil in that, if there's an area where it could get closer to the Led Zep vibe, it would be to get a drummer or drum programmer to capture the Bonham approach. Even on relatively simple songs, he was a distinctive drumming 'voice'.
pablatone said 1591 days ago (March 19th, 2013)
I hope the gentle soul is still first
And foremost! I was really just wondering if I could still do this kind of thing. It's been maybe 15 years since I tried. Bonham was just the best, kick like a mule, snare lick a shotgun. He is sorely missed.
