Description
This is a warmup before an Airport Seven rehearsal. Recorded live to Zoom H2 with no post or additions - this is me and drummer Steve DiBenedetto exploring a quieter side of A7 before the arrival of bassist John Terhorst.
I am playing a Godin Session Strat through a Peavey Bandit amp using a Boomerang Phrase Sampler and Electro-Harmonix Freeze pedal for the sustains and loops. The synth effects are created by a Moogerfooger Ring Mod pedal - and I use a t.c. electronic Flashback delay.
Steve is playing a vintage Slingerland Chrome kit.

EH makes some nice stuff at a decent price
the Freeze is limited - but interesting to work with. It's a good compliment to the ring mod. I'll have to check out the superego. I just added a Holy Grail reverb to the chain. It gets along well with others.

If I had more dough I don't know that I'd
be playing a Bandit - but it does have it's unique charms as a powerful clean amp to pile pedals into. Bob Quine used to use one. Thanks for stopping by.

Did...
... John Cage visit you sometime in your sleep and thus... this cool experimental warm-up?

A stand-alone on its own.

The
thing is kind of mind bending but also relaxing. Amazing, even though it isn't a rehearsed composition because it holds together. The trick is, could you do it again? I'm glad you recorded it. Thanks.

Good point Char
we have been working for about a year now to find ways to be consistent to a degree with our improvisations while never overtly repeating ourselves. We used to play written and arranged songs between the improvs at our shows and have only recently ditched them altogether. We have a handful of musical touch points that we work around - but we never announce what they are to each other when we start. Sometimes we synch up and often not - which forces us to find new common ground. I just wish I knew my instrument better.

Spaced out
I love listening to your spaced-out guitar work. I think I find it so intriguing because it's so opposite of my melody-and-variation approach to making music. It's like we are using the same six strings .. but coming at it from completely different galaxies.

Thanks Warren
It's a bit late in the game for me to appreciably improve my technique - so I have been focusing on tone - texture - and arrangement.
