Who I Am

Description
I wrote this song six years ago and never had the heart to finish it. It is unlike any other song I've ever composed.

Specifically, it's much darker than I usually lean, and it tells the story of a dark time in my life. A little over 10 years ago, I lost my 8-year-old brother, Cy, (pictured) to a car accident.

"Who I Am" is a poem I wrote after the accident (thus the unusual lyrical format). At that time, I was wrestling with what our relationships would look like in eternity.

This is the final track to complete for my new album.

Thanks for listening. If you can stick around til the end, there's a semi-surprise ending.

Lyrics
Verse 1

We've been waiting here for so long
When we've already resolved defeat
When sorrow fills the void and clouds the memory
Will you still know who I am?

Verse 2

The life we used to know is splitting at the seams
The surface hides what's underneath
My faith is crumbling, I'm begging to believe
That you still know who I am

Verse 3

We've been waiting here for so long
Longing just to find a victory
The hope I have inside is driving me to see
Will you still know who I am?

Verse 4

When the city street lights are way behind us in the mirror
When all we know is left behind
Will you and I recall the world we used to know
Or is this life our only one?

Verse 5

Wait, can you hear me now?
I'm standing right behind the door
When I walk through will you be waiting on the other side?
Will you still know who I am?

Verse 6

We've been waiting here for so long
When our time remaining to redeem is fading
Oh I pray, don't let me betray my only memory

Who I Am
The plaintive piano and evocative vocal set the mood very well, Seth. An understandably emotional response to a very sad situation. The crescendo in arrangement towards the end is effective. Fine song. Perhaps the vocals seemed to float a bit below the mix, but that may have been intentional. Take care, Peter.

cool
and moving at the same time! Nice minimalist drums and I like the anti-cresendo at the end. Nice work.
