Vocal duet (hat-tip to Rich "Garfunkel" Schletty)...

I submitted this song about an hour ago and am now uploading it again. Why? I'm trying to figure out why some tunes I upload (such as the earlier version today) won't play on the iPad! I'm wondering if it has something to do with whether or not the mp3 version was created in iTunes via GarageBand or via some other software such as Audacity (which was the case for the earlier version). So, I'll know soon enough!

Update: Indeed! Song files must be converted to mp3 in iTunes. And that would include any tracks that are created in some other software platform, such a the GarageBan app on the iPad. Crazy. I would love for Simon to address this.

Here is the song description from the first upload today:

I started this song in the fall of 2004, writing and recording the first verse and chorus. I uploaded as a demo in 2006. Now, nine years later and the last verse written, Richard Schletty joins me with his vocal harmony. In fact it was the realization that this song needed a 'Garfunkel' harmony voice to go with my vox that gave me the impetus to finish it.

Back story: What inspired this song was a completely unexpected and unannounced visit in 2004 by a dear friend that my wife and I hadn't seen nor had any contact with for about 20 years. A mutual friend (thanks Boppie) brought her over to our place. We spent the entire day strolling about Santa Barbara, playing Scrabble, drinking a few margaritas, and just talking, reminiscing, laughing, and catching up. This song is for you, Mary Noble...

Rich, thanks for the mixing input and, of course, your wonderful singing. Jack (davisamerica), thanks for your encouragement from the bullpen. Perhaps, this merits a rerecord at some time, certainly because there's some ambient background noise in the guitar track from 2006 which I use here. I bet Rich may do some mixing work on this, as well. So consider this version #1. And if you have any ideas on what could be added/subtracted to bring this song up a notch, please chime in... Hope you like it!

vs. 1:
Phone call early Sunday morning
Memories flooding back
You almost didn’t even show up
Now tell me, what was that?

It so good to see you my old friend
So good to hear you laugh
Ah, what was it that we shared back then?
We’re still sharing it today.

Old friends and margaritas
Strolling through the years
The memories have faded
But you remain so dear
Old friends and margaritas

Bridge (La’s and da’s)

vs. 2:
Last round, the sun is setting
How did it come to pass?
Can't believe you still remember
Time slipped away so fast.

Touch of grey yet eyes still sparkle
But now the day is done.
Ah, what was it that we had back then?
Good to find it here again.

Chorus - outro

The mp3 needs to be created in iTunes in order for a MacJams song to be played on an iPad.

Question, why is that the case? Seems to be a programming quirk of MJ. Well, now I have it figured out... Until the next quirk!
Dadai.2 said 1539 days ago (September 2nd, 2013)
another quirk...
... that needs addressing is that when a song is accessed via iPad the song play counter automatically and erroneously adds about 20 to 25 plays!! Double crazy...

as just happened...
when I went here on my iPad...

I have no clue about the technical issues (although I did encounter that play count issue on one of my tracks.

Is it only after the song has passed MJ that it wont play?
What happens if you take a garageband-export directly to the ipad?

PS Love to hear your songs again!

i was expecting...
...jimmy buffet of course, but this is very nice. i like the vocal harmony in the right ear, and the simplicity of the guitar and the left ear spanish guitar. nice balance and a pretty song

Buttet not...
margaritas yes! I can see your expectation, especially with the smiles and laughter in the song photos. The right side vocal harmony is Rich's. The man can sing. Thanks for stopping in for this one.

Haven't heard the original, but I love the harmony and laid back groove. I can identify with the lyrics - life goes by so fast and the time we spend with old friends whom we haven't seen in a while is precious.

Well, the first version in 2006 was a shorter version demo. This would be the original. So you have indeed heart it! Time does sneak by pretty quickly. Thanks!

Thanks for inviting me in on this. Another song collaboration was long overdue. We did most of our joint productions back in 2004-2008, then I fell off the wagon. You were one of the key people in my journey as a vocal stylist and lyricist-melody maker. Thanks for re-igniting the song campfire again. I love how this song flows timelessly and effortlessly.

I'm glad...
... that you jumped in! I heard a high harmony voice to go with me vox. I had even recorded a couple takes, though not able to carry it off. When you finally came back with your higher register it was amazing how much you were tracking with what I was hoping for. Great effort and singing, my old friend. Thanks.

Friends and good times....
Thank you, Lisa. Your words harken back to a collab song from a few years ago on Roxylee's song page with the refrain - good times, good friends, good music...
