Penny for your thoughts

Description
This past winter, on a small Island about an hour from Singapore, I bought a small bamboo flute for $4. Alap, a friend, flute maker and multi-intrumentalist from Switzerland modified the keyholes and worked his magic, transforming a cheap flute for tourists into a proper instrument. This was the first track I recorded with it.

I like the title for this track - most thoughts are trivial and fruitless, but appreciating a positive one can transform a fleeting inspiration into a profound experience. This flute could have been just another souvenir collecting dust, but an instrument maker saw the potential in it. Very grateful for that.

The photo I took in Guatemala - the vintage Mercedes was parked in front of an art museum, and the owner had the best coffee from local coffee farmers, which he offered after explaining his version of the country's history, the struggle for a better future and the trouble with the Fair Trade agreement. But that's another story.

Peaceful
Another wonderful peace. Full of emotion but subtle. The flute sounds great. Love the touches of temple bells and reversed metallic pads running in the background.

Thanks Graham!
I always admire musicians who have the inner clarity to create 'simple' music. And I keep trying too:)

If you listened to this while riding your bike you'd be doing 20mph, but I'm happy you still liked it! I was talking to the keys of your piano and they mentioned the word 'magic' too btw.

How many...
Magicians does it take to make a Pari piece? Well, usually just one, but in this case two. What a wonderful flute sound, magic indeed. But all the mix is quite superb, even if it comes second to the sheer beauty of the listening experience. This will be played many times.

Thank you and take care,
Henke

A new instrument can really bring forward new inspiration. I'm very grateful this happened with that flute. I am still learning to play a Low Irish Whistle flute btw - not quite as easy to play as the bamboo. Your comments are always so encouraging and inspiring!

Thoughtful
Your music is always thoughtful and wonderfully melodic. Simple, with well placed atmospheric effects, a great setting for this tender flute.

Thanks

Calming opening. The flute has a haunting quality, accentuated by the slow, gentle melody line. Beautiful work, Pari.

Pleading....
Such a lament in that wonderful flute's voice. Quite a mellow and peaceful meditation you have created here with the barest of musical elements all complementing each other. Atmospheres of longing permeate this delightful track. Nice...nice...nice.

superb.
A most expressive performance of a beautifully composed piece. Even without the story of how it came about it's lovely, the story just makes it that little bit better. a $4 flute with potential, that's a thought few people would have...

Stunning! All was well and then the $4 flute came in.....heaven! The guitar lays the secure foundation and is expressive, but doesn't falter in the meter. This is a special piece.

Lovely
Clarity and pristine-ness come to mind. Soothing.. Interesting to daydream that a part of this creation comes from someone living on a small island, making a flute to sell. Dl'd for nurturing listens. Thank you!
