Description
Hi all, this song is for the SpaceRace Challenge 2! It's a rather short song made with only four tracks. On each of those tracks as an instance of the new synth from Propellerhead called Parsec. Parsec as an additive synth. Each of the four tracks uses a patch that I made from scratch so that's pretty cool (something I haven't done before)! Looking forward to what everybody else creates. :)

Parsec to Parsec
I've downloaded several AU synths. I've tried to create my own patches. I never get anything. I like what you've done here. The glitchy and chirping synths bring to mind the tech aboard the station in the picture. The more sustained sounds have a nice musical analog warmth like old Arps and Moogs.

Thanks!
Thanks for listening and the comment. Synth patch programming is very hard! I think the key is to start with a synth that doesn't have a lot of parameters. There's a site called syntorial.com that has some free lessons and it has helped me a lot.

Tiny ray gun!
Great collection of synth choices. The voices you have created work well in the project.
Thanks for sharing your sounds with us.

interesting
I am not a synth head, but I really respect guys who can generate patches and get cool sounds from synths.

Thank you!
I wouldn't consider myself a synth head either but it is fun to put one foot in the synth World and try on the shoes. Just have to practice and listen. As I wrote to alackbass above, the site syntorial.com has helped. Thanks for listening and commenting.

Congratulations
on programming your own patches (and thanks for the Syntorial link). I have Alchemy which has several tons of parameters so I've mainly been exploring presets (which are pretty amazing) but I'm itching to wander off the beaten track soon (or, in keeping with the SRC theme, to boldly go... ;-)
Anyway, enjoy your Parsec and I look forward to hearing where you boldly go in future.

Thank you!
Alchemy looks pretty deep! I've been trying to stay away from VST's and AU's since I mostly work in Reason, which doesn't support those formats. Alchemy is one of those synths that would make me open up Logic just to run it though. I must... resist, lol. Good luck with it, just take your time and have fun.

Droids communication channel
I think this sounds like. Not as bad as old modems, but slightly distracting for human ears. Still, works very nicely for the SRC, a bold and creative entry not quite like any I've heard before... Well done!

Thanks and take care,
Henke

Agreed!
I agree that some of the sounds are a bit harsh... I thought about dialing them back a bit but decided not to. :) For some reason I gravitate toward mechanical sounds, etc., haha. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Parsec
Far out (3.26 light years to be exact). LOVED the patches you created--not to abrasive but still glitchy. Thanks for posting.

Parsecs
I've managed to create a patch only once, and I can't remember how I did it. I'm too lazy in that respect, I guess. Impressive synthification and implementation of robotic sounds. Just right for the space age.

Thank you!
You should try making more patches! It's really kind of addicting once you start getting into it. I can be lazy also and like to find a preset that's in the ballpark of what I'm looking for and go from there. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Good on you
For taking on programming. I am also amongst those who have not tread into that hallowed domain. Some day. The effects you get remind me of machine to machine communication and are perfect for this kind of challenge. Nice!

Thanks!
I thought the electronic machine sounds were fitting. No additional effects were used those, just what the synth had on board which was reverb and delay. A lot of the magic in the patches came from built-in modulation with some LFO's. :) You should trespass on that hallowed domain and make it yours! Thanks for listening and commenting.

Yowza, it's been forever since I've seen Blade Runner... I'll have to go back and have a watch/listen. Glad that you were able to get a visual! Love me some glitchy sounds. Thanks for listening and commenting! =

Kraftwerk
springs to mind at first, but then it becomes nice and glitchy. I too have only ever made a couple of patches of my own from scratch. They're difficult to do, so I leave them to the pros! I usually tweak presets to get my sounds. I'd like to do my own though, as you have. Kudos!

Thanks!
Just initialize some synths and get to work. :) Normally I'll just usually tweak presets as well. Some presets don't even need tweaked. Whatever works is my motto. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Electronica to the max
Classic synths brought forth with your new and fresh patches. Additive synthesis creates an interesting edge to the sounds which makes this sound modern and yet it hardens back to sounds decades past. Cool artistic choices and maybe you will evolve this into a longer piece some day. There is lots here to still mine for sonic gold.
MannequinRaces said 1490 days ago (November 15th, 2013)
Agreed!
Definitely agree that there is much more to explore. Will I get around to it... who knows! :) Thank you so much for the motivation to get this done (short length of music as it may be) and for commenting!
