Lyrics
The Milkman Cometh

He cometh. The milkman cometh.
The clinking of the bottles, the shuffle of his feet.
A quiver of excitement as he's coming down the street
She puts her Sunday wig on and she hopes he is impressed
She's heavy on the make - up - she's got to look her best.

Oh - how she wants him. How she needs him.

Was there ever a man such as this?
Proof there's a God in the sky.
She who has never been kissed,
Not since her dear husband died.

He's a mountain of a man with a uniform of silk
The body of Adonis as he's counting out the milk
He leaves a dozen yoghurt and he leaves a box of biccies
She dreams about a quicky.

(Thoughts of a holiday in Bognor or Spain)

Maybe they could get married.
Would it be the same?
Would he tell her he loved her?
Would he say it again?
Would she be left on the doorstep?
Would she feel alone and insane?
Would she belong with the empties?

The deliveries are done and the neighbourhood is quiet
The milkman didn't nibble so she's on another diet
She'll dream about his float for the time that he's away
She looks toward tomorrow 'cause it's another day

When the milkman cometh.

Milkman Drama
Laughed my ass off. Then I listened a second time. The middle eight sounds like the Moodys. Yer killin' me. I gotta get some nitro...

Ted!
I omitted references to the "Speed" drama in the show, as I wanted to concentrate on Mrs Doyle's increasingly bizarre behaviour as she anticipates the arrival of Pat Mustard. But feel free to think of an explosion in the distance! Thanks for your kind words, Daugrin.

Father Ted
In that case, avoid "Speed 3", as it will finish you off quick quick.

What a way to start a day
I loved the lyrics and the way you've put this together is brilliant.

The musical quotes are very cleverly done and the instrumentation is perfectly judged as are the vocals.

A fine piece of work Mr E :-)

Cheers

Dick

Oo 'eck!
I used 10 CC's "I'm Mandy" as a sort of template, although I didn't listen to it before starting my recording, in case I ended up copying it too closely. The rest is the result of noodling on the uke and the Ovation. Glad you liked it, Dick.

The Milkman Cometh
Do you still have milkmen? I think they disappeared from here around the time of of Benny Hill singing about Ernie. This is entertaining, Graham - funny song and plenty of interest in the musical arrangement. Much enjoyed!

I don't know.
They never existed in The Bahamas. My mum may still get milk and biccies the old - fashioned way - by electric vehicle(!) My friend Mark mentioned Ernie, and Two - Ton Ted, in his initial reaction to this, but I feel I'm onto something much more profound - Irish sitcoms. Thank you for listening, Philip.

But the rhythm was taken from "You know my number one, You know my number two ..." . There's probably more Formby than Fabs, however. Thanks for listening, Patrick.

Beatles, 10cc influence is very present, which is a gooooood thing. This was really cool, bass guitar work was very nice by the way.

Someone already said
Very Beatle-esque but in an original way. For some reason I want to hear Peter Gabriel or Fish singing this. You had me right from the human hi-hat in the intro. Nice mix and prod.

Cheers, Rob
I think it's the regional accent (Fish is Scottish, I think, and Gabriel has never adopted a mid - Atlantic accent to my knowledge, so sounds very British) The human hi hat is Pat Mustard thinking the world of himself as he moves in on his prey. (I'm sure he's on YouTube, in case you're unfamiliar with Ted lore). My accent is Stafford, which is where the North begins in the UK. I'm very happy you liked it, Rob. Keep on proggin'!

Alas, it wasn't ready
Several good MJ buddies will attest to the various drafts that this song went through. I'd put it as The Other B - side to "Let It Be" or something Mr Formby may have recorded for his 60's post - death comeback LP. But thank you for your kind words.
