Description
got nostalgic and wondered what it would sound like to combine Sabbath's Planet Caravan with a healthy dose of P Floyd. came up with FC and figured Sigmund would be perfect for lead on this because of of his melodic style.

Sigmund: lead guitar
Me: all rhythm and acoustic guitars, and bass
Organs: Lounge Lizard
Synths: UltraAnalog IV (yes, big AAS/physical modeling fan)
Perc: Kontakt

Lyrics
Floydian Caravan

breath in the sand
you understand
the heat of the sun

you cry silent tears
hide all your fears
in fractional songs

ablazed in your mind
boundless distance to go
like a warrior bold
down uncharted roads

would you believe
i am so stoned
on a planet alone
a freak in this show?

you move like diamonds on the land
through desert sand
a river of brown

you feel like a moribund ghost
moving so slow
but you won't turn 'round

awkward feelings
none revealing
none believing
not appealing

carry it on
keep to the road
passed voiceless eons
survive thru the storm

in a caravan, or is it just a show?

I'll say it again.........Wow! That bass sound rules. Digging the big reverb on the vocals. You may have been channelling two rock icons. But the results are all you. Brilliant guitar solo. And yes of course, downloaded!

the bass is why i
posted this then took it down. the rendered mp3 sounded fine, but when i uploaded, it somehow got super loud and distorted all over the place. then i turned down both the bass and the mix and tried again. the upload still came out louder and bassier while the original file sounds nothing like that. anybody know what's happening here???
but thank you ALB.

the problem was on my end: my soundcard with x64 drivers. i changed cards and the distortion went away.

Sammy, you just keep getting better and better and more ... out there. I think your approach to the verb vocally is working really well. A trrippy almost old school melody with that modern Sammy touch ... all the nuances sit perfectly in the mix to my ears ... and Sigs guitar solo is a bit different and more free form sounding than what I'm use to hearing from him and I like it! Great vocals and top notch mix!
.... and the ending was intentional right

hey Gadz
i asked Sig for that and he delivered. i don't express my emotions well, but boy do i feel them, so when i got his solo trk, all i could do was sit there with a big smile. wish you could hear the original mix. me and Sig's Dropbox version sounds truer.
and yes, you know me and endings! had to sit the acoustic down and pop open a b....soda.

Sam as always, you really set the mood here - ambient and wondering. Absolutely love your treatment on the vocals - delay is perfect for this time of song. It does me good to hear how you mix, very abstract and spacious. Sig adds a class and focused element to this, really digging the longer, melodic note choices. Most excellent my friends.

Hey Sam - I'm so glad you asked me to be a part of this tune - I really think it's one of your best yet. If your goal was to create a surrealistic and dreamlike soundscape, then mission accomplished! Playing on it also allowed me to approach a solo differently than I would normally, which is always fun and challenging. So, great work, and thanks again - much enjoyed!

you
definitely met the challenge. i asked for melodic, then looser; you gave me melodic, then looser. i know i caught you at a time when you had other things going on, but as i said to you before, 'it was worth the wait'.

I'm along for the ride...
Listened to this a bunch of times and it just occurred to me that I don't know what genre I'd put this tune into at all. That's fantastic.

Being a rather obsessive guitar dude, I have to say that I am really loving Sigmunds leads here. Really nice, clean runs and there are some really expressive, screaming bends that I swear have a voice of their own. I can almost see the facial contortions that must have been happening during the recording :).

The whole song builds beautifully and the payoff at the end is fantastic.

This is just so well done, my friend. Into the sammydix folder it goes...

yeah, i love hearing the different flavors different guitarist can bring to one of my tunes. you know where i like you best, then there's Gadz who can go all over the place, L_Kloo if i want discordant prog, now Sig. hopefully, the list will keep growing. makes me not feel so bad that i suck at lead guitar.

Loved riding alongside this caravan! The guitars were worked brilliantly as they came in and out, and Sig's solo could not have fit better. I also enjoyed that vocal dance ("Awkward feeling..."), the vocals throughout were great. Download is a must, and I thank you, sir. T

thanks T. i was going for sort of an ethereal "mood" that i hoped would come across. as i wrote it, Sig's lead style was my first thought for a lead guitar. that teaches one to go with his instincts.

FEEL said 1153 days ago (March 31st, 2014)
Modeling fan
I'm not sure what that is but it sounds good. The song has a mystic feel to it and I can here that Floyd approach. The vocals have that CSN/sammydix vibe. I like what Sig has done with the guitar, he adds his own signature. You did good as well on your guitar. Interesting lyrics that leave me pondering.

i was
shooting for a psychedelic feel with the lyrics, but i actually liked the abstractness. made me feel like i was having a 'poetic' moment. just hate i had to rhyme. never cared for rhymed poetry for some odd reason.

Nailed this one
I'm not even sure where to start because I feel like I want to say all the aspects of this song that I like - all at once. So general impressions: nostalgic - check; totally immersive and engaging - check; production chops - double check; performances - played to the max. My hats off to you guys (and choosing Sig made for a fine partner - great move!)

Best of all I can download this for as many iPhone listens as I like. Thanks!

A real trip. I get a little of the Planet Caravan vibe, but this is better than that. Floyd not so much, but whatever. It has openness and patience. Very tasty work by Sig. Tremendous vocal arrangement and delivery. Sounds great through headphones. Sonically surrounded, First use of the word "moribund" in a song. Points for that! Excellent collab. A hit.

Smooth...
That's the only intelligent additional adjective I can offer to all of the other well-deserved comments mentioned (so far). The general production quality of this track is really superb and just floats along seamlessly. You've created something very special with this track, Sig's beautiful underscoring right on the mark with precision and such refined, tasteful playing. Sammy...it that you singing? wow! I am so impressed with your voice...and with the whole concept behind this composition. Beautiful work and a wonderful listen.

70's
Captured the feel, put me back in high school
-let's break it down
lead guitar captures the period. i have a saying to guitar players, you can make it scream but can you make it sing. Sig did both!
vocals are again signature, perfect pitch. the depth of the reverb used on lead vocals is very good, did not leave a muddy mess behind
the mix is 70's with consideration to the family of instruments rocking on the track, a bit over done but that's how it was done during the period
opening guitar spacey and mixed well.
A simple chord progression brought to life
the bass is in you face but i would have done it the same way, it's good to hear you play bass again!!!

Whoa this is fine. Dreamy creamy flow, imagining the heat ripples coming off the hot sand as this caravan travels by. Off the hook lead guitar. Completely original getting a Santana feel from this. Loving the 'lounge lizard' organ in this. Outro is sublime. Excellent collaboration. Thanks for sharing with us.

Playing catch up, Sam. Been travelling and fishing in Tasmania. Great place. The spacey, mellow vibe and the verb'd vocals really suck the listener into the mystic. And Sig just hits the spot like you two been a team for a long time. And the caravan is on it's way... Thanks, Peter.
