Description
Egmont Mountains - My graduation piece. A variation of Beethoven's Egmont Overture. This is based on the Count of Egmont, a play by Goethe. Beethoven had expressed his outrage over Napoleon Bonaparte's decision to crown himself Emperor in 1804, furiously scratching out his name in the dedication of the Eroica Symphony. In the music for Egmont, Beethoven expressed his own political concerns through the exaltation of the heroic sacrifice of a man condemned to death for having taken a valiant stand against oppression. The Overture later became the unofficial anthem of the 1956 Hungarian revolution.

Great music. I love the Yamaha 88. It sounds a bit saturated at points but that could be my headphones-is not a big problem overall. What was your process? Orchestra? etc.

My first time leaving a reply here, not sure if I'm doing it right! :) Thanks glad you like it, I love the Yamaha too. I did this a few years ago when I wasn't that great at producing, I agree there is saturation in parts. Process was playing it all myself in a few takes live on my Yamaha. I wasn't using midi much back then so had to practice for a few weeks to get perfect takes.

Yeah that part is hard to play that fast for very long. Takes a long time to make your fingers that strong. Glad you like it! I did this a few years ago and it's not my current classical+electronica style but figured I'd upload it. Cheers :)

If the Hungarian's dig it...
It has to be good. They are major music snobs. They have their own scales and rhythmic figures. Like they are know what's cool, and the rest of us are not in the clique. Man, that's good playing.
You can get that saturation issue covered with a transient plug-in perhaps? Recall that when you play like you breath... you can't articulate?
Please, you don't sound like a music box. Some people take years of producing before they escape the music box sound. Great job!

Thanks that means a lot :) I always try not to be music box sounding. You are right maybe if I run a compressor through it or something that will fix it. Been playing for 25 years off and on so hopefully the playing is good. Just been doing it for a long time, no big deal really!

Yes he did write it in protest. I had always loved this song but when I heard the history behind it made me want to do a version of my own. Only the first 6 notes are Beethoven's, the rest is mine. Thanks :)

I always admire...
...anyone who'd take on such iconic music and cast it with a modern flair. This is impressive on so many levels. I so much enjoyed hearing your arrangement and hope there will be many more that you post here soon.

Thanks Rosa. :)
That was like 6 years ago when I was younger and had more energy. ;) I should upload more just piano songs like this, going to get an old acoustic Steinway in my place and use the Blue yeti mic to record with I think. Midi can't even keep up this kind of playing even in 64 bit.
