WHAT HAVE I DONE
The repeated motif provides a wonderful sense of coherence to the piece, Charlie. Wonderful sense of tension and space in music and the mix. I really like the piano entry and the outro. Fine post. Thanks, Peter.

Wanders the Area
The voicing is warm, lots of movement. The lopping descanting tag on the bass line is an effective device. Develop that line a bit maybe before the tag? Thanks for sharing with us here!

cool trumpet...
...as your main solo to start; the repeated backing figure allows ample accompaniment to experiment with letting solos float above it. There is a movie somewhere that needs this little track. It's pretty short. What if you changed the tonal center and took it up a few steps about 2 minutes in? Might suggest some other melodic development, too. ... Nice post, Charlie. I love the way you are experimenting with the sounds of your digital orchestra. You have a good ear for blending your instruments, each of them very clear in the recording.

Of late
because of time and maybe even a state of mind I've been working on shorter works but I agree that there is room for expansion and development and your suggestions are always of great value.
Thanks Paul,
Charlie

Western
Is what I see this in for some reason. Maybe it's the horns! Expansive music for horses on the wide open plains. The main motif is very catchy; I like it a lot. I agree that this piece should be made longer, but what you've done is excellent, clear instrumentation and really well mixed together. I'm full of admiration for you chaps who can use the orchestral software so well. Nice one!

There must
be something in my musical DNA that brings to mind the west. But I don't mind, in fact I love that genre and am glad you enjoyed this.

As for admiration of my orchestral skills... well aside from the fact that I have so much to learn I am equally astounded by all that my fellow MJs can do that I can only dream of.
Thanks Dave,
Charlie

What you have done!!
This could be used in a modern western film noire. I don't what it is (maybe the marimba (?) ostinato that has that horse lumbering along quality.

In any case, I really like this one Charlie. You evoke a lot of depth here with a relatively light orchestration. I know Paul F. Page is always saying - quite correctly - that less is more and it certainly works magically here. The solo trumpet is haunting and when you bring in the strings it makes for a duet as the two parts interact. Tension and release cycle over and over urged along with the - just what is that instrument?? Then, you bring the piano in and change tempo - that was brilliant - and it winds up. Probably one of the best endings I've heard from you. Very well chosen from an artistic perspective.

Nice nice nice. Thanks for the dload sir.

Doug
PS - I had tried to play this in my usual browser (Safari) and it was really slow and wouldn't play. I thought it was the computer or the internet connection but apparently not. I'm in Firefox now and it's fine. Anyway, a long story to say why it took so long to get back to you and everyone else.

Trumpet solo
I'm glad you enjoyed the trumpet solo. I tried and to some degree think I was successful in giving it a personality.

The ending felt like the right way to restate the main motive.
Good to see you back here Doug. Your outstanding music and generous comments have been missed.
Cheers,
Charlie
