Description
You have your colorful characters, and then you have your chromatic explosions. If this dude is hiding in you or me somewhere, it might be good to walk softly to avoid detonation. I’ve met several of these individuals, and it’s fun to try their shoes on, and strut around. This is just one of several songs I’ve written with this theme, (that worries me.)
But, I asked a bunch of our talented MacJammer friends for help on this, and to provide a controlled environment for it’s making. I especially wanted to collab with those who I got to jam with at the Last MacJammer’s get together down at Andy Wigell’s in Dallas, (or Richardson, TX). Andy plays a mean sax on this and zoot scoots it along nicely. Joe Gurner’s bass gave it a solid foundation along with Scott Fugate’s driving beat, (I like that “flat tire” effect in the middle.) John Luper’s guitar was a must on this, and I guess his playing is what inspired working out this particular song. My long time friend and brother, Jack Hemby, the first davisamerica, brought out the harp for us on this one, and gave it a cool bluesy touch. And then to give a nice ethereal feel to the shoobeedoobeedoowahs, we called down our favorite singing angel, Roxylee for the harmonies. Always a joy!
We hope you enjoy our song here; we had a lot of fun making it. Peace. Terry Pearson

MJ Band:

Terry Pearson (davisamerica2) Vocals, piano
Roxanne Smith (Roxylee) Harmony
Jack Hemby (davisamerica) Harmonica
John Luper (FEEL) Lead guitar
Scott Fugate (scofugate) Drums
Andy Wigzell (awigze) Sax
Joe Gurner (jgurner) Bass guitar

Terry Pearson: Mixing with one ear tied behind my back, (ear infection.)

Lyrics
The Looker

People come up to me and say
“Son, you know your life is a mess!”
But I pay them no attention cause that don’t matter
If you know how to dress
And this world may be unforgiving, but they’ll hardly ever hit you
If your pants are pressed

Well I might be headed the wrong direction
But at least I got my boots on right
And I might be standing in the pouring rain, but don’t I look good
In this shirt and tie
You can keep your aggrevations. If you need more
You can even have some of mine (I don’t need ‘em)

Well I use to have a job
And I used to work real hard in Toledo
But I had to give it up and say goodbye to all my bills
Now I’m in cognito
Well I gave it my best shot, but diggin’ ditches can be hard
On your tuxedo

Got an old and honest friend back home
And he goes by the name Mr. Mirror
And I ask him everyday what looks good, he says “yeah, put that on
That looks better!
Then I strut on into town with my fedora twirlin’ ‘round
On my finger

Whoa, I’m a looker! Looky looky here.

Shoobedoobedowah Shoobedoobeday Hey Hey!

Okay guys.......you really rocked it with this one. The word is "awesome". I recognized the hat from Terry, but I've never seen you in a 'zoot suit'. I think all of you need to dress like that. Love to hear your music. Makes me very happy! Luv yas~

You Lookers!
The intro hits it right with that Gurner Bass and John's guitar is obligatory here and hits it right. Jack's harp is just right. And en absentia and often invited and someday we shall meet in one of our jams; Scott and Roxanne.... so sweet! Thanks Terry for sqeezin' out another great tune that we all get to tag along on!

Could this song even breathe without a saxophone?
It was so natural, and you did a great job with it, Andy. Thanks a million for coming on board with us. I'm looking at my songs now, and instead of saying what would sound good with this song, I'm asking which song would go with a sax! It's a beautiful instrument, and you, my friend have mastered it! (This is where you blush). Thanks again, Andy. T

I don't know if it stood out, but I duplicated that "flat tire" and made one of the tracks thickened to give it the right effect. Your drums sound so great in this, as I knew they would. Don't be surprised if I show up at your door again saying, "You busy?"

Downloads! Get 'em while their hot!
Thanks, Doug. It's always a joy when people take one home with them. It's like giving away kittens. I think all of us were a little surprised at how the song developed, as is usually the case. Each idea and each individual spirit meshed so well in the final product. This is the only way to make music. Seven heads are better than one. Thanks for the nice comments. T

Giving away moods is what music is all about, and I'm glad this one was worthwhile for you. I hear these people at MacJams making their music, and everyone of them is doing something that makes me say, "I wish I could do that!" The beautiful thing here is that you can have them do it for you. The possibilities are endless. Thanks for the kind words from all of us, and Peace! T

Hi, Sig
Thanks for coming by for a listen. You're right about the collabs. I'd like to see them happening more like they used to. This place has always been the songwriter's dream for me. Ideas in my head stayed in their infancy until I brought them here and these talented people turned them into reality. And dang, (for lack of a better word) it's fun! Thanks for the good words. Terry

Nice
This comes together quite well. Sax was particularly on point. Some critiques on the harp work: harp played and matched all the changes, which is impressive -- most players get lost in a 12 bar progression and just throw licks into the mix instead. However, too much reliance on the 4 draw, bends on the 3 draw are routinely sharp, and there's often air leaking on single notes, which suggests that tighter embouchure may be in order (or, if the notes are tongue-blocked, a pucker might be more comfortable instead). On the plus side, the harp was played to benefit the song, and that's more than I can say for most harmonica that you hear (John Popper, I'm looking at you). Nice work.

Hiya Ben
First off these comments were pretty impressive as far as feedback. Mostly I play harp as a lark and have never really studied technique much so your critique is most helpful. The "plus side" comments made me smile. Too cool and thank you sir!!
