Description
By (actual blood) brother and musical partner since we were but wee lads along with my soul-brother Ibotenic Paradigm collaborated on this little number. Ibotenic waved his magical lyrical and vocal wand over our musical bed and transformed this piece into what you are hearing now. All the guitars are Logic Pro amp models. The drums are Addictive Drums that have been modified. I mixed an mastered it - for what it's worth. All the instruments apart from the drums were actually, physically, played. Crazy I know. But we roll that way. (At least this time…)

Baptism Song
Lyrics by: Ibotenic Paradigm ©2014

All the time you keep on going
It doesn't matter where you've been
Mighty rivers keep on roilin
Some step out and some come in

When you come 'round
Bathe me again
Wash me down
Take me in

And I can't remember what it means

The world around us
Gets so restless
It settles on me
Weighs me down

When you come 'round
Bathe me again
Wash me down
Take me in

And I can't remember what it means
There's nothing to do but wait

But what you waiting for
And I can't remember what it means

makes total sense - and sounds so good here. Cool production - definitely got a thing going on. Would love to jump in and jam one day.

Jamming sounds great. Not working these days (apart from working on finding work) so have more time than usual. PLus I suck at keyboards and with your newfound mastery due to your shoulder that would be cool!

I like the vocals - the harmonies are strong. Solid backing and I like the various guitar tones. Much enjoyed.

Thanks Phil! Ibotenic has a serious way with harmonies. There are about 12 tracks of vocals all together. Mixing them was a challenge - and a joy - all at the same time!

There is plenty of good stuff in this song. My main quibble is that I would have alterated between that 1&2&34 march rhythm and something with a more syncopated flow every once in a while. It is effective in places, like where you drop out the guitar, but after that I would switched to something else.

Yeah, I get kinda lazy when it comes to drums. Dru and I have a tendency to write things super fast - 3-4 songs a jam session. We just put on a loop and jam to it. The go back and try to make things more interesting. Comment welcome and noted!

Thanks Karen. I've been out of the loop for a while. Looking forward to hearing more from you soon. "Heart Song" was lovely - but we need more! You garnered more fans with that tune than I have seen at MJ in eons. Good work! Keep the shiney side up!

Thanks. I think Ibo's vocals are my favorite thing about this. I especially dig the repeating loops at the end. The volume of them used to be much higher, but we dropped them back in the final mix.

Take me in
I'm in the middle of mixing a track and this just shows me how far from finished I am. Wonderful mix, and a great, soulful track. Your vocals sounds fat and yearning, the beats are ace, love the guitars, and the song is just the right length. A spiritually uplifting track. Great to hear from you at last.

Steve-o, Kind words coming from the likes of you. I thought you'd like the vocal overdubs on this one. There are like 12 of them. It was a bear to mix, but way worth it to celebrate Ibotenic's pipes. And the length: 2:38 and change, just like the days of the radio single. There is something magic about that number in the human attention-span I think.
More to come.

Hey Andy,
Thanks for the listen, you're too kind. Loved your last one with Kevin. I was late to the party to listen to it, but it was worth the wait.

Good to hear...
...some racerat music again...

This has a really big vocal sound and really spacious mix. Those guitars are also really, really big...In the headphones it's pretty wraparound...

I like the change at 'When you come 'round...' There's an almost modernized Gene Clark vibe to it at that point...
