Horizontal Falls

Description
Another fingerstyle piece using my PRS Angelus, recorded using a H2 Zoom and tidied up in Logic Pro X.

I thought I should come up with a composition that was a bit more "up" than the reflective style of my two previous posts.

When we were in Broome recently, we took a small plane flight up to the Horizontal Falls in the Kimberley. The Horizontal Falls are, in fact, a fast-moving tidal flow through two narrow gorges, and the direction of the flow reverses with each change of tide. As tides in the Kimberley can reach 10 metres, a peak tide gives rise to a significant difference in the sea level on either side of each gorge.

I took the photo from the plane but there are other (more expensive) trips that land by seaplane and you can take a boat up to, and through, the "falls" if it is not too dangerous.

See what you think.

Thanks,

Peter :-)

Hello Peter
I hope all is well old friend. Cool inspiration. This is really goood dude, Jamesy likey, Katy started singing "All the Lonely People" to it? lol.
Great playing, excellent recording. We should do a macjams acoustic instrumental cd! Meaning macjammers, not just you and I :-) Jd.

Lots of talent
Thanks, JD. Yeah an MJ acoustic instrumental CD would be great. There's lots of talent in them there MJ hills. And I hadn't picked up on the "All the Lonely People" nod until you mentioned Katy was singing it. Subliminal messaging at work. I appreciate your support, as always. Take care you two. Regards, Peter.

10m Tides!
This moves along at a nice clip. It sounds to me a little like very early Bruce Cockburn acoustic meets Acoustic Alchemy. Deft finger work, lovely tone and a lively melodic line to follow. So now we expect you to produce those wonderful slow and introspective tunes and these more bouncy and driven works too. Not too much to ask is it?? Thanks for the download Peter!

Challenging me
Thanks, Doug. I am still really just trying out recording techniques on the PRS and am getting a bit closer to what I want. The guitar is challenging me to try and be a better player. I appreciate your kind words and the D/L. Take care, Peter.

Horizontal Falls
First I have to sat the title grabbed me....
Another fine piece Peter. Some nice picking and pretty nice tone you get from that guitar ... not too gassy and not too bright. I like the way you count the time with your rhythmic guitar slaps ... I was in the room with you. And I have to say .... wow! recorded on a zoom? ... I have to get me one of them!
Cheers

Good base
Thanks, Stan. The H2 gives you a good base to work with and then Logic tidies it up a bit (eq, stereo spread, reverb, etc..) Still working out how best to record the guitar and do it justice. I have a second small diaphragm mic on the way to make a pair. That will give me more scope I think. Take care, Peter.

Your Style...
Just blows me away, you must of spent years playing
folk songs and stuff, to understand the dynamics of
playing like this and to be as good as you are...At It...

There are many wonders in the world, many more then
we have time to see...But those that we do see, just
makes our souls a little more free...

Peace...TG.

Wishes...
Thanks, Tony. Kind words, indeed. I have noodled on an acoustic guitar for 40+ years now, guess somethings got to come of it :-) Often wish I took it more seriously early on... I appreciate your support. Take care, Peter.

Horizontal falls
Really nice playing. I think I too heard a snippet of "All the lonely people." (Eleanor Rigby). It was only a couple of seconds in this original piece that I very much enjoyed.

When you create music like this...
......it's as if somebody suddenly opened the window in a very stuffy room; this is such a beauty Peter; I always enjoy how you take the wonderful images you remember on your travels and through alchemy of sorts, turn them into music. It's a cliché, but I could listen to you playing music like this until June 22, 2039 at least (don't worry, we'll let you sleep an hour or two every now and then!) Michael

A miracle
Thanks, Michael. Send me your lead and it will turn it into....lead... :-) Alchemy is not a proscribed religion here in good old Victoria. Druidism, on the other hand... And if I am still around in 2039 it indeed will be a miracle. Take care, Peter.

Good bright recording. The music moves along at sharp pace and suits the title. You're starting to tame that guitar!

Thanks, Philip. The guitar is so rich and resonant that it does require some taming. Starting to make some inroads. Talk soon, Peter.
