Description
This is a song that Cedrick and I use to play in the early years with the band FEEL. The lyrics are not that special, something I came up with when living in Vegas. Through the years I think the two of us have improved a bit and it is certainly nice to have the technology now that we didn't have then. Cedrick came by the house several months ago, we laid the bass down in a couple of hours, Cedrick also added some midi drums on top of the ones I already had but later in the mix. He also told me that this song needed some horns. I thought it sounded pretty good like it was but the suggestion was fitting so I used some R&B horn loops in Garageband and later they were tweaked and layered in Logic with the Melodyne plug-in. I've been messing around with this for a while off and on. A lot has been going on lately but I've been Jones'n to post something for some time and this is the most complete project I have at the moment.

funky FEEL...
something a little different from the FEEL factory. Being a horn guy, I agree with Cedrick, the horns are a good addition. Hang in there, and thanks for sharing this...

Cool Hendrix vibe (if he was sitting in with Sly). Digging the bass. Big sounding mix overall. Must have been a killer band to see live.

We had our moments, a miss leading glimpse of grandeur maybe. I think we could even do better now. Back then it was Cedrick, Terry (paralax) and with two different Drummers, Garrison or Herrera. As far as Hendrix vibe, I'll take that any day even though this turned out having a bit of R&B. Thanks for checking us out, means a lot.

OOH - I love the horns!! Wowzers, this is fabulous John and Cedrick - all of the guitar work is awesome and those were two well spent hours for the bass. But .... have to say again .... LOVE THE HORNS! "one more time around" ...... I think I will!

I wasn't too sure about the horns, had a small selection in GB and maybe I should have looked for something else in that large Apple Loops library I don't use. I'm glad you liked the rest as well. Thanks a lot!!

Nice one John
Love the Hendrix style playing and the vocal phrasing is so much like Jack Bruce or Clapton. Nice bass Cedrick. I'd love to hear this with the drums up 3 or 5 dB. Horns sound terrific.
Very good post.
Cheers from Oz,

Yeah, Cedrick can play that bass and adds a nice compliment to the song. That was one of the highlights to the early FEEL days and missed when he left the band. Thanks for dropping by and listening. The phrasing is countering the guitar, if I were doing this live I would teeter between playing the riffs and singing. That's the nice thing about recording... it's so much easier to lay the vocals and guitar separate. I appreciate the ear, I'll keep the drums in mind when I bounce this again and I'll also take those comparisons any day.

Yess!
I have listened to your older version of this song many times.
I love it! To me it is one of the best songs around.
What I like is first the composition,
furthermore your guitar work, which seems to always talk to me on some deep level,
finally your vocals!
I would love to hear you guys live!

I appreciate the input, means a lot, I think this version is more original than the early version posted that I recorded by myself. During the early years of the band this song worked great with Cedrick, it was later dropped from the list after he left, the feel to it had gone and the new members of the band wanted to speed the song up. I found my hands were having a hard time keeping up and there was not enough room to express myself. It would be nice to play live again, it is a lot of work and at this time I have personal matters to tend too.

I appreciate the listen, I keep reading there's a Hendrix vibe which I truly appreciate, I was going for a more Texas blues sound but I think the funk changed it somewhat.

love the sixties brassy sound mixed with grungy rock backdrop.
good vocal....you got the handle on the delivery....but you need to smoke 200 marlboro full strength and then hit 'record'
that bass at 2.10 is very cool
excellent guitar noodling.
reminds me of robin trower in places.
great track john....deep bows of impressed admiration

I get what you're saying, definitely the vocal effect I was wanting and no thank you, I'll pass on those smokes. I've heard the Trower comparison before and I'll take it anytime. Thanks for the listen, I know the grunge guitar isn't usually your thing and I'm pleased to see your reaction to it.

Classic retro vibe to the song, John. The vocal/guitar riff interchanges really take my mind back. And isn't it good to know that RT sounds like you :-) Big bass and driving guitars, what more could a fella want. Thanks. Take care, Peter.

Thanks for the listen, I really appreciate your encouragement. This is something that Cedrick, the old band and I started playing about 20 years ago... probably vintage for that time as well. Fun to play and so much easier to get right when recording.

Hey John - cool grooving tune! I'm hearing a mix of 70's funk rock with a little Stevie Ray Vaughn thrown in. Horns are a nice touch. You guys work well together - this was fun to listen to - enjoyed!

Cedrick brings his own style to a mix which adds some nice changes to a composition. The 70's is inherited to the both of us. Thanks for the listen and comment my friend.
