Lyrics
Farewell to the flowers
farewell to the trees
Farewell to the birds
Farewell to the bees

I have come to say goodbye
I am singing my last rhyme
Hold my hand
Remember all the love we shared
Farewell to that
Goodbye this time

Though these arms no longer hold you
And these eyes can all but see
I will stay forever folded
In annals of our history

Dry your eyes
Don't shed no tear
I leave you now
My conscience clear
My parting's sweet
My memories belong
To this farewell
My dying song

Farewell to the flowers
Pass my coat
Where's my hat?
Farewell to tears and laughter
Fare-thee-well to all that

Farewell to the Flowers
So good to hear something new from you. Well written tune. Great vocal and nice harmonies. Lovely playing and an excellent solo. I hope the lyrics are in some way figurative and not literal. I hate goodbyes so I'll just say "see you later my friend."

Got a
Happy feel even though the lyrics have such a nostalgic feel about them.....love the clarity and those beautiful harmonies.....the song has a sort of 'New Seekers' vibe to it don't you think? voice is sounding great Julian, regards M

As Neil said
where's the gospel choir?

Lovely work Julian. The tune belies the melancholy in the lyrics (or at least it does for me).

Cheers

Farewell to the Flowers
The acoustic opening made me wonder whether you are still playing the guitar parts with a missing string... :-) Trademark vocals - clear and pure. Gospel folk from Hackney. Who'd have thunk? Great to hear a new one from you, Julian. Take care, Peter.

Farewell to the Flowers
I like the warm guitar and the velvet vocal. Bouncy solo works well. Harmonies add richness. Interesting juxtaposition of sad lyrics with a happy sort of style. As always, excellent work, Julian!

Beautiful song - timeless
your vocal is so good - really perfect for the style and subject. Nice that you kept the arrangement as spare as you did. Nice how you save the harmony for after the break. Wonderful.

Your vocal
is strong and fine; and I really love the emotional richness of your upbeat melody, straight-ahead delivery and mournful, clever lyrics. Harmonies at 2:58 were unexpected and tore me apart.... marvelous stuff!
On an unrelated note: I got a narrow, sporty kayak this summer, and can't even put its exoskeletal loveliness into the water without silently blessing your name!

Much love to you, Julian,

MoM

All the above...and...
...
1) the accompaniment (especially the extremely well-balanced bass) is perfect for this song and played with agility and precision. Just delightful. Nice solo bridge.
2) the musical form is especially pleasing because it is simple, not overly repetitive, and is easy to remember  — almost like a hymn or a folk song. Excellent choice for the conveyance of this straight-forward lyrical message.
3) Your voice is so clear and pleasant to listen to.
Very very nice song, indeed. Congratulations on every aspect of its creation.

Long Time No Hear
Julian.. Just returned from a long absence and you were my first listening spot and you sound as terrific as ever. This made for a timeless, folk influenced composition. Your gorgeous voice is crystal clear as well as your playing. Superb harmonies on the 2nd half..just in the right place.. Nice ending

Yes, wow. poetry so concise, message simple and clear, vocals perfectly clean and just right on. A pleasure to be given this musical gift. If I ever have to deal with a breakup this is a good tune to listen to...to pretend I'm the one doing it, and that I'm okay with the parting!

hi
Just to let you know, I do listen to your work. Just bad at commenting.I think you have one of the best voices at macjams. This song feels so effortless. the picking and melody has impeccable timing. I listened twice. When I find someone that clearly has some recording and mixing skills I always want to know mic placement and reverb settings. Crazy. Thanks for the nudge.
