Description
I have been away fishing for the last 8 days, sharing quality time with some long time friends, and I got news that a person who I used to work with had committed suicide.

I haven't seen him for over 4 years, since I had to retire due to ill health, and he was never a really close friend, but he was a trusted colleague and we got on well.

There are lots of tough gigs out there and being a school principal is one of them... I wish his family and friends all the best at this very difficult time.

I wrote this piece this morning because I felt I needed to respond in some way.

PRS Angelus with Ernie Ball, Aluminium Bronze, Medium Light strings that I am only trying for the first time (fitted yesterday). I think I might get to like them. X/Y AKG's as usual.

I took the sunset photo at Cable Beach, Broome, earlier in the year.

Kind regards,

Peter.

I believe he would have appreciated this response, and possibly even been surprised. Very nice piece, Peter.

Thanks
Thanks, Terry. I just wanted to try and express how I felt with some music. It's sad and reflective and yet still, hopefully, life affirming. Take care, Peter.

It's hard when someone commits suicide, several of my friends did.
A very nice tribute!

Fragile
Thanks, Vic. I suppose we often never know what people are really thinking/feeling. Fragile is a good description of the situation. Take care, Peter.

A sense of...
Thanks. There is definitely some emotion behind it. Not really sure what, though. A sense of sadness? A sense of inevitability? Just seemed to fit what I was thinking. Take care, Peter.

Really TOUCHING
Description. From the look of the guitar image I just saw, seems you have a fantastic guitar. And the sound is quite nice!

Thanks for sharing and mention about the terrible situation Great to get a bit of that off your shoulders in such a creative way!

Inspiring
Thanks, Bill. The PRS Angelus is indeed a fine guitar. Inspiring, in fact. 2010 model in perfect condition, second hand in Melbourne for an very good price. Probably one of the few in Australia. I am sure you would like it (and do it more justice than I ever can). What strings do you use on the Santa Cruz? I appreciate you dropping by on this one. Take care, Peter.

For A Life
Pensive piece with a nice ring to the guitar. I met the person I presume this tune is about a few times when he was an RNL at a school I was working in. Seemed a great guy - positive and on top of things. Appearances can be deceptive. Very sad.
PeterB7858 said 895 days ago (December 13th, 2014)
Sad
Yes, I am pretty sure we are talking about the same person. Sad. You just never know what is bubbling away under the surface. Pensive is a good description of my reaction. Catch up soon. Take care, Peter.

Sweet
guitar work as expected. Tone sounds nice. I've not had the interest to play my guitars since they were stolen and I got them back from the pawn shop. Maybe 2015 will be better. We'll see.

What a nice response
I have several friends who were laden with depression and couldn't take it any longer. Guitar sounds very good as I've grown accustom to expect from you. Thanks for sharing, thoughts and prayers to the family.

No alternatives
Thanks, John. Yes, it must be terrible to get to a point where you think there are no alternatives. The music was just trying to express my sadness that things had got to that stage, but still celebrate a life that was lived. Take care, Peter.

My brother was a school principal
it took a lot out of him. This is a wonderfully heartfelt tribute to your friend. Has an old English folk feel to it that I really like. The guitar sounds sweet too.

No let up
Thanks, Kevin. Yep, I know from personal experience about the demands of being a leader of a large secondary school. It is a rewarding job but the mutli-faceted demands never seem to let up. Glad you liked the tribute and there was some emotion behind it for sure. Take care, Peter.

For A Life
The music is beautiful, so precise and yet emotional - a fitting tribute. It's so sad when someone takes their life, I can't imagine what that person must have been going through to do such a thing. I must say how much I enjoyed your playing also.

Whiling away the time
Thanks, John. Sorry I took so long to reply. Xmas, et. al. but I have also been whiling away my time doing online Logic Pro X tutorials from MacProVideo.com. Some are very good. Anyway, I am glad that you thought this turned out okay. The whole situation left me sad, from several different perspectives. Take care, Peter.

a tough gig indeed.... wish we could make more of a difference sometime but ya never know what goes on in someones heart. All we can do is pray sometimes.... sorry you lost a friend but turning to music and using it to reflect your friends life into your is a great place to be able to walk in. The last chord seem to say more than, 'this is the ending'. Thanks for your talent.

Life goes on
Yes, Andy, I agree. You don't ever know what people are feeling deep down. Males, especially, aren't programmed to share their feelings freely. I appreciate your kind words. And, yes, the last chord was meant to signify that life must go on.

Your title...
...is so sweet, and it describes the wonderfully peaceful track you have created for your friend and colleague. It is amazing how some circumstances in life that don't affect us so directly (you hadn't seen him in several years...were good colleagues, though) incite us on an emotional level to respond, to be gentle, to be aware, and to express all of those things. You do it so well here with this gentle solo song.

Reflections
Greetings Peter.. This was a somber and yet peaceful tribute to a tragic situation.. which has been around since life itself, ironically. Interesting, how you ended on an up note...Saying it with music..no matter the situation.. is a healer of sorts...

Good life
Thanks, Joyce. I appreciate your listen and comments. I suppose the major chord at the end was there to try and signify that a good life shouldn't be forgotten, despite the sadness of the ending. Take care, Peter.
