Nisi Came Over

Description
I recently got to know a local bass player named Nisi Jacobs. We were on the same bill one night and talked about doing something together. On Saturday Nisi dropped by and used my old Ibanez Roadstar II bass with some of her pedals. I played my Arturia Microbrute synth and triggered, modified, and looped various samples I had put together from my Akai MPX8. The result is what you have hear. A single pass improv recording with one crossfade to shorten the piece from its original 24 minutes.

Now we are talking about ways to bring more harmonic development and compositional structure to our next excursion while still working in the one pass duet world.

Lovely sound mood that you have created here. I could probably listen to this all day. Imaginative and meditative.

Inner Space
When I listen to this it's hard for me to imagine it's two musicians jamming together live. But I have seen you doing this kind of thing in performance .. so I know it's the real thing. What a nice way to spend an afternoon!

Often we think of these ambient productions as something happening out there in cosmic space, but it could just as well be the musical sounds being generated inside a physical body .. or for that matter, the mind.

We are star dust - right?
Neither Nisi nor I had any clear idea what we were gonna do when we started. Truth is - I forgot to hit record on the first round that led to this - so we went back and started where we left off - but ended up somewhere else.

some kind of space-groove. And you, too. Like it. A direction, or many directions, loosely followed.

This is right up my alley, some strange sounds coming in and out I think I hear a dove I always think that improv brings out the best in music glad you shared thanks!

Tim - I can state definitvely that
no doves were sampled for this session - but I completely understand how you might here doves under such circumstances. There are Pygmies slapping water as percussion and a bit of George Harrison from All Things Must Pass (Eastern reed flute)as well as mutated Buddha Box and ring modulated feedback of the analogue synth etc. Meanwhile Nisi had some cool bass mods happening so - yeah - no doves.

Improbable improv
Moody and atmospheric. Inevitably draws you in.
A bit of structure would give the listener something to relate to and the musicians something to build from. But this is so open and expansive...

Made me think of being underwater or being immersed in some type of embryonic, sonic fluid. Definitely intriguing. If whales played bass... :-) Thanks to both of you for the free therapy. Regards, Peter.

Perfecting the atmosphere...
This is pretty cool, Bud. A wonderful track to accompany some celestial travel. As I get through all 10 minutes (almost) of this track, the two of you slide in some very interesting little gems that keep the piece alive. Is it my imagination (probably), but I almost hear voices trying to get through. I think it's the bass that is suggesting a vocal dialogue of some sort to me. How cool to meld all of these rich sounds into a meaningful tapestry. Light the candles; fire up the oil pots; let's meditate or contemplate or just...
Nice.

Very cool Kevin
Isi sounds like a great melodic player who "gets" what you are up to. This is a special track - I often find free-form jams a little inaccessible, but this seemed very easy to listen to. Hypnotic and inventive - and just a little surreal. Great post!

Cool stuff
At first I thought I'd just give it a try and then leave for another tune (trying to catch up on MJ), but soon enough I was transfixed and couldn't let go. Very intriguing and cool stuff. Big thanks for sharing.

Take care,
Henke

Great trip!
This reminded me of some of the things Harald does here (love those mysterious train rides of his), but of course in a different style and approach. Like his pieces, I closed my eyes and just let it take me where it was going. The thing about a work like this is no two people have the same experience listening, I really like that! Thanks guys! Michael
