Lost her knickers
The sense of immediacy with this piece was strong. The urge to throw down on the basic track could not be denied. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Daug, you consistently live outside the box and that's a good place to be musically. Nice guitar work throughout on this one, impressive ambiance.

This should be performed in a stadium with a light show to support it. Impressive development o the theme.

Hello Phillip
Thank you for the comment, I appreciate the big ears comments! To be honest, I actually considered piecing this one out like a studio rat. But you got the one take solo as is the norm. Maybe next time 😄

You always amaze me with your production ... fantastic guitar sounds ... even gets a bit funky when the drums come in ... like the kick ... have you used some distortion on the kick? I dig the way the keys work like discords
against the guitar and bass .... great stuff Daug

Hello Stan
Ah, thanks for stopping by.
Let me answer your question about the kick drum. The sample is from Addictive Drums. The drum track came from something else I had created, so it was processed separately from this piece. Once the sound was imported it was tweaked again, and, then processed with the master.
The short answer is "Yes". The kick drum sound is distorted. Many times. Like coats of paint being applied to the original sound.
Thanks for the guitar kudos, that was Bitch #1. Every once in a while a Pacifica 1221 will appear on EBay. They have not been manufactured since the early 90s. I have two of them. You can hear them play against each other on the MJ Daug cut "Two Bitches".
One of the reasons this thing is called "Urgent" is because of the discords you mention. I could not wait to play against this thing once I had the basic track completed. It was irresistible to me as an improvisor.
I could play it ten times, over a week or so, and get ten unique solos. But I don't have time. I got new stuff I got to get to now!

This sparser arrangement really shows off your instrumental and production chops, Daug. Three dimensional in both space and musical creativity. The "guitaring" is fluid and sinuous. Thanks, Peter.

Swirling and twirling. At the end I did feel me somewhat giddy and weary.
May be like Florida's springtime ;)

Color me impressed
I was expecting an onslaught of competing time signatures and combative melodies (especially after seeing the picture), but this one unfurls easily. A very pretty beginning with some early 80's synth sounds, then a small mine field, and then into a very tasty jam that could definitely be several minutes longer for my tastes.
I really enjoyed this one.

Yes Fergie I have been here since the place opened. In fall 2009, I erased the 60+ tunes I had posted since day one. The community here had changed, becoming hateful and repressive, and I needed to respond appropriately. What happened?... [see more]
