Slow Dance (with Warren Smith)

Description
Warren sent me a version of this fine song that he had written, and asked me to add some guitar and harmonies. I did that, but also recorded a different version, with acoustic guitars as the main backing. It's also in a higher key, is a little faster and has a slow dance waltz section added to the end. Warren then added some harmonies to this version which I think improves it considerably!

I used a Maton FG100 for the acoustic tracks, a Gibson Howard Roberts for the electric noodling and lead.

Warren still has the other version, and may get to post that soon (apparently, recording in a New York home can be tricky at the moment, with all that shovelling of snow getting into the mix!)

I hope you enjoy the performance!

Lyrics
There's no no dancing like slow slow dancing with you
No there's no no dancing like slow slow dancing with you
Every step I take, every move you make
There's no no dancing like slow slow dancing with you
My love

There's no no kissing like slow slow kissing with you
No there's no no kissing like slow slow kissing with you
When I feel your lips on mine, I transcend space and time
No there's no no kissing like slow slow kissing with you
My love

Time is like a rocket ship shooting towards the stars
One day you'll look around and be amazed at how far you are
Our lives can zip by quickly as the earth whizzes around the sun
So take a moment to slow things down and enjoy it while you can

There's no lovemaking like slow lovemaking with you
No there's no lovemaking like slow lovemaking with you
With every tiny touch my heart beats faster
Slow lovemaking can be difficult to master
Because there's no lovemaking like slow lovemaking with you
There's no lovemaking like slow lovemaking with you
No there's no lovemaking like slow lovemaking with you
My love

I love the simplicity in the writing. By simply changing the verb a new verse magically appears. Nice guitar additions. The fingerpicked coda was really nice.

Hi Andrew
I like the structure of the song - it gives you something to hang onto, but keeps moving forward. Glad you like the guitars, too!

Hooky
I can tell this is going to be stuck in my head all day. I'm going to be thinking, "There's no no (fill in the blank) like (fill in the blank) with you," for days! Great writing and a nice melody. Very nice guitar solo at 1:30, too. Kudos to Warren for the initial song and harmonies.

Fill in the blank ...
"You've got the flavor .. I like to savor .. there's no no cooking like slow slow cooking with you." It's like that Jefferson Starship song, "You're only pretty as you feel." I always want to write verses like "you're only as stupid as you feel" or "you're only as dangerous as you feel."

slow dance
really fine guitarwork and vocals
my only nit is the drums they're not in sync evrywhere.
I'd consider skipping them, I think the song is strong enough
nice outro :-)
enjoyed

Thanks
Just had listen to the original files without the drums (which is a Garageband drummer track). You could be right there, KC, they may not be necessary or even really helpful. Food for thought! Thanks for listening and for the comment - much appreciated!

More than enough
I noticed the drum-sync thing, too. It sounds fine in Garageband, but perhaps somewhere via all of the uploads, downloads and transfers between networks, computers and programs and the conversion to mp3 .. something slipped out of harmony? I think your suggestion is a good one - just strip them away and let Philip's fine guitarmanship carry the weight. It's more than enough.

Inspired collab! They said it couldn't happen, but MJ makes magic happen. Had a smile on my face the whole time. Now we need a name for the tour... Woofer Down Under? :-) Nice one. Talk soon, Peter.

I listened to a lot of your songs the other day. You're good. And very prolific. Your voice keeps me interested and the accompaniment is right on. Put another shrimp on the barbie for me. I'm comin' over and we'll jam.

Top notch...
...On the highest rung!
Such a simple song that is presented with such class and what I'd call just about perfect mixing of all elements. The structure of the song is classic and works so well in capturing the direction of the narrative. Vocals are so so clear — even my failing ears could make out every single word. Guitar work supports with certainty and that solo bridge is quite wonderful, too. What a great collaboration. (The "trailer" is absolutely pleasant to hear, too. Unexpected, maybe not necessary, but a clever addition nevertheless.
I'm glad I heard this work tonight.
