Lyrics
Just another Sunday morning in a coastal town right here
Fishermen cast out their lines from points along the pier
And seagulls hang like mobiles in the crisp, clean winter sky
And waves are lapping round a jellyfish that came ashore to die

Beach-huts stand in serried ranks of faded blue and green
The elderly in overcoats sit cosy in-between
And red hot pokers turn and sway in fennel scented breeze
And parents lift their children up to pick pine cones from the trees

In Kingsdown we celebrate another day
Run down the promenade to chase the clouds away
In Kingsdown we fall upon our knees and pray
It’s just a game that we all like to play

Just another afternoon in a seaside town like this
Teenage lovers in the churchyard secret fleeting kiss
A Burmese cat is soaking up the fuss of passers by
And slow-worms leave their beds to bask in golden sun-drenched sky

In Kingsdown the only road leads to the sea
With potholes everywhere – we fill occasionally
In kingsdown the tide will always ebb and flow
In Kingsdown we like it just so

Just another Sunday evening in a coastal town called here
Fishermen with empty hooks go off in search of beer
The evensong calls everyone to join the merry dance
We hear the voices drift and fade across the sea to France

In Kingsdown leave all your worries on the shore
Forget yourself and everything you came here for
In Kingsdown you’ll never need another friend
In Kingsdown we stay to the end

Song. Great lyrics, beautifully played and mixed. My only gripe? No pier in Kingsdown. I went for a visit on Google Earth. :-)

I jest. Lovely work.

Slice of life
Just like being there. You make it sound very attractive. A lovely (I need another adjective) piece, with your unstressed, natural vocal style and you-make-it-sound-easy guitar playing. And definitely-obviously-good to get a new one from you. Adds a touch of class to the old ramshackle place. Thanks for the DL, Sir J.

Quiet town
The sort of place young adults can't wait to leave and older folk wish they could stay. Lovingly described and beautifully sung.

Beautifully evocative and beautifully performed.

A touch of darkness and a sly dig in there though?

like how your voice almost has a wisper behind it, the lyrics pull you into the scenery of the music and your voice Kingstown sound like a beautiful place except for the potholes :)

Beautiful. Your vocal delivery is as always exquisite, simple at it's core. The careful use of vibrato really brings an honest quality to this. Miss you around here, my friend.

I miss a place I've never been
wow! I like this on so many levels. Your song makes nostalgia well up in me. From the first chord onward, I am there, on the shore. Soothing, smooth vocal performance. Simple, solid guitar accompaniment, played in a manner that evokes serenity. D/L'd...I'm taking this song down the road with me (or down the shore :-)

What a beautiful song
This is so gentle and so carefully performed. Your vocals are so smooth and, well, just lovely. The guitar is the perfect accompaniment to this wonderful song. And I'm really taken by the beautiful melody you've created. This just sweet in so many ways. What a blessing to hear this this evening. Such skills vocally and instrumentally.

Beautiful work, Julian. I like the gentle melody, the artist's eyes wandering across the the strengths and weaknesses of the town and its people, the way instruments and harmony drift in and out to add interest to the uncluttered arrangement. Much enjoyed!

Terrific song and performance
This has a similar impact on me (although totally different musically) to "Life In A Northern Town". More than a song, more an emotion that your lyrics and musical approach/restraint create.
Very nicely done Julian!

Neil

I hate it...
when some middle aged songwriter starts whining about how life gets all static, using some fey english seaside town as a metaphor. Thankfully this is not one of those songs.

Brilliant!!!

Missed your talents around here of late. While I'm not always in a mellow mood, when I am, I listen to your music. Well written and performed, moody and melodic - the piano is a nice touch. I really enjoy your music, Julian, this one being no exception - thanks!

How could this not be great?
You are a very talented guitarist, an accomplished poet and have a great voice. How could this not be great? It's a given. Shall I be metaphorical? It's as sure a thing as sand in your eyes in a wind storm or Jacques Cousteau having something interesting to say about fish.

Seriously Julian, the song is great and made me feel like I was actually in Kingsdown.

Sorry for my late arrival, haven't been here for a while. I enjoyed Kingsdown very much, I couldn't help being reminded of 'Minstrel in the Gallery' in the mid seventies and played with equally as much precision and charm. An excellent song Julian

So much to enjoy here Julian. Mellow and reflective.Lyrics that paint such a good picture. Like the harmony vocal and the little bits of piano for added colour. As classy as ever and a good use of restrained Seagulls!!! cheers Mark
