Lyrics
I can't fall too far, I'm down near the bottom you know
I can't fall too far, there's nowhere left for me to go
But I pick myself up, start all over again

I knew the hurricane was coming, it was all over the news
Big wind blowing playing some rhythm and blues
Nowhere to run to, nowhere to hide

But you can't take me down as long as I live
You can't take me down as long as I live
But when you're down this far, something has to give

I knew the government was coming, at least that's what they said
If I owed them taxes they would find me before I was dead
Don't listen to what they say just watch what they do

Now the whole country is hurting, we've been cheated so bad
The banks stole our money and left us so sad
Well the coverup is on, no one did anything bad

chorus

Well I'm no beggar, I've got a lot of pride
I've got my family here by my side
But it is hard to get by no matter how hard we try

And where are the hero's and do they know what to do
And would we recognize them and see they are true
Or are they bought and paid for a puppet without a string

Chorus

Thank You
Joyce, Jack, Jack and Tim many thanks. Macjams has brought me great joy over the years and given me an outlet for my creative energy. I don't have much left but I will still bring what I've got. Each of you guys music has likewise enriched my life and made it a little better, a little more fun.

Well done Tom
Love the message with that hang in there attitude. Someday maybe the greedy will throw us more bones. I really like the clean mix and execution with the vocals and the acoustic accompaniment.

You Can't Take Me Down
Classic folk/protest vibe, Tom. Fine performance. Sounds like it was recorded by someone in the back row of the audience...? I was waiting for the applause :-) Thanks, Peter.

Playing it again

Let's hear it for self-serving BS!

It's funny how some of these songs written years ago will suddenly pop up again when we are simply strumming a guitar. And no matter how self-serving that may be .. it simply feels good to play them again.

Here, to me, it sounds like we are sitting in the same room and you have just said, "Hey, here's one I wrote thirty years ago" and you proceed to play it for me. That .. of course .. is the magic of Macjams .. how it breaks through the formal barriers of time and space.

Thanks!
i like the way you describe it Warren. Pretty close to how it happens for me. Most of the time just fooling around on the guitar with a chord or finger picking pattern and all of a sudden words start rolling out.

I've said before
but it is amazing how you really put reality to your songs! Like you really mean it and experienced it kind of thing.
Hank Jr. tonality in your voice of course . Interesting words!

I don't know if your having problems with uploading images, I know I am I guess I'm the only one being frustrated trying to upload images for the artwork. Thanks for sharing!

Strong message
This song has a strong message, and I believe it is becoming clearer and clearer to everyone. Your vocals are as always filled with emotions, and that makes it quite difficult to ignore your lyrics. Nice build up and a catchy chorus!

I love to play guitar. I have been writing songs for many years and have a large catalog by this time. Songwriting is easy. Writing great songs is hard! Born in Louisiana and live in Texas. I grew up on Chuck, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Ricky, Little Richard ... [see more]
