Description
Blues in E with benefits! For your collaboration my friend.
Tempo is 110 bpm at the start... changes at bar 110 to 127 bpm.
Blues in E will work nicely as you improvise yer way through the changes until bar 96. You can prepare for this section by listening to the drums. Effective drums always provide guidance, oh my! Here the drums start playing cymbals every other bar and then- a triplet on the ride bell announces where you have to start playing changes. If ya wanna make the changes that is... The bass plays only chordal information during this section... starting each bar with the root. This is effective bass.
Bar 96: F#min 6 (twice) then Bbmin 6
Bar 97: Emin 6 G#min 6 E min 6
Bar 98: E7 B6 (an easy one at last)
Bar 99: F#min6 Ebminor7b5 (ouch)
Bar 100: G7 A6/9 (easy)
Bar 101: Am6 C#min6 (detecting a pattern here?)
Bar 102: Bb7 Aminadd11 (easy-really!)
Bar 103: Amin7b5 Em6
Bar 104: Db7 Cminadd11
Bar 105: Ebmin6 Gmin6
Bar 106: Blues in E escape tag
At this point something different. The recurrent progression is E minor, F#minor, G minor. There are some tension added in the keys but just the vanilla will do, here are the scales to use: Eminor Dorian, F# Aeolian, and G Aeolian, against the chords.
The modal turnaround: (don't tense up now)
Bar 122: F#6/11 Bmaj7
Bar 123: Emin7
Bar 124: Db6/11 Fmin7b5
Bar 125: Bb7/9
The section repeats with the bass and drums dropping in and out. The bass player is supplying the root information and staying inside the chords. The E minor tonality is featured for several bars in the "hold".
There you have it my friend. Go for it. Christmas in July this year? Notice that Santa is absent in BIG so far this year... not so the last seven years, does that mean something... it's a beacon.

Let me drink...
a little scotch whiskey and turn up the radio as I drive behind the wheel. Daug, this thing grooves so smooth. Must give you (as Feter used to say) big bows. That B3 is gorgeous. Journey from the cool upbeat to the darker mood in the 2nd half. Really enjoyable ride.

blues
Cool how it changes from a pretty straight forward blues to a very obscure and dark blues :-)

Hello KC
Thank you for commenting. The minor blues section is darker... the progression is fairly common on fusion...

Nothing is straightforward is it?
Even the blues. Very different.....

Beacon indeed. I'll see if I have any inspiration left ...

Hello Richard
Take a copy and have some fun. After all these years? Different is the only thing worth doing.
Variation is our cause. The form is present for our inspiration and contempt. Thanks for checking this one out...

Hello Sam
Don't know about the DL aspects. Perhaps a copy with better fidelity will become available, this is mixed with the bass augmentation finalizing for laptop style equipment I spoke about on "BIG Reboots".
There is a problem right now. I am working on an amazing piece of music that will not leave me alone. I may revisit this piece once I get this hot piece finished. I will try to make you a better copy.

Hello Steve
I was actually thinking about you when I was putting the congas on, worrying over making the part too square... People just do not understand that the art conga players have- all this stuff is down... depending on where a player is from... Latin percussion is a demanding discipline. Thanks for your support on the thing...

Hello TIm
Tuba lines, I will take that description. Freaky at the end? Naw, say it aint so... just some modal sounds from the mid fifties with the tense harmony... Thanks for dropping by...

Hello Andy
Aeolian is a mode of the major scale. Play "C" scale starting on pitch "A". Yer playing Aeolian sounds.
Put a "C" chord loop in yer DAW and play the modes against the chord. Each of the modes has a characteristic intervalic structure. Learn them cold... Why work hard and study? Why learn to understand what yer doing? The Muse will abide when you play with knowledge and skill applied to your natural talents my friend. No Muse? No music. Simple enough.
How nice of Daug to leave all these tools lying around. I should be proclaimed Citizen of the Microsecond or something... get to work slacker!

"Like being in the third row at the club."
...um, somewhere under the table, I think. The organ's WAY too low in the mix, though. I can hardly hear it. Bass takes over the whole thing and I am wishing to hear more of those twangy sounds that are, right now, in the background. Certainly a lot to work with here.. Don't think I could ever get through your schema, though.
