Trout Lake...or?

Description
This is "One Hundred Fifty-Eight" from my BY THE NUMBERS collection of piano solos. I sent the first version of this piece to my friend Kathie Lynch who lives part-time in Yellowstone National Park. She is an amazing and very accomplished photographer and she sent back the picture (above) of Trout Lake which she had taken yesterday afternoon. Seemed like a fitting piece of song art. I envisioned this as a piano number with a lot of orchestration backing it up, but settled on a simple string bed so as to not obscure the piano. (Less is more, I guess.) I hope you will enjoy this quiet piece. If you want to read the score or play it, it can be found here:

Trout lake
It's funny to recall that I was fortunate enough to visit Trout Lake trail about 1 year ago. It all feels like many years ago now, but the music and the pic brings back nice memories. Thanks.

Extraordinary
Such clarity and poise in this performance. A subtle layer of strings is the perfect choice, as the piano composition is complete and given the brevity of the piece may not have allowed for a proper development of an orchestral arrangement.

Beautiful as always, but there are a few moments when I thought 'how perfect'!

The hook
I love your touch on this tune. Did you do this all in the box as opposed to recording acoustic?
Thanks for sharing and the download.

Trout Lake
Beautifully restful. I like the way the subtle strings intertwine with the melody. Another gem, Paul.

Splendid Paul
Wonderfully subtle strings and another perfectly formed piano piece.

You chose the photo well.

Some of
the chords you used were very suspenseful. Actually, many of the "incidental" chords had an emotion attached, giving them a certain "feel." Gives the song a storytelling quality, very visual.

I'm there...
... on the lake, in the peaceful mood. Beautiful piece of music, Paul. And lovely playing on your piano. The arrangement is simple and poignant - just right. Wonderful way to end the day with your music.

I would also
like to know if this is recorded live instruments (if so, kudos to having the piano tuned and close miked in such a fashion, not 100% sure if it does the piece justice, the writing and performance is beautiful!), or if it's MIDI?

If it's the latter, I'd really love it if you could send it to me - I have a gorgeous classical performance patch that I've been working on for a while that would fit this like a glove :)

How lucky are we
to be able to listen to such wonderful original compositions here at this place. I can't comment on technique, or style or indeed the structure of this. I don't know how to. So I'll just say it's delightful. What a beautiful piece.

A gentle
and thoughtful work that at times it has a sound of the great film score composer Michel Legrand, but at its core it's all Page.
Thank you for sharing this gorgious gem Paul.

Each note like a pebble tossed
then the ripples - the sun glinting off the surface - the wind gently moving the water.
Excellent piece Paul.
