THE PASSING SUN

Description
An orchestral work whose title may be taken literally - or then again not.
It's all relative isn't it?

If you're interested a pretty cool video for this is here:

THE PASSING SUN
A nice sense of grandeur and wonderment, Charles. We really are tiny, insignificant things, aren't we... Where's a Tardis when you need one? Fine work. Thanks.

Nice composition
Sounds to me like the sun isn't just passing in general, but marching steadily :-)

It may well be my ear wax, but I missed a bit of lower end in the mix. I can hear some deep notes but I don't feel them. This is a problem I often encounter in my own pieces as well, so I have no quick solution for you (if indeed there is a problem, that is). Maybe some eq-ing or extra reverb could do the trick? I don't know...

Still, would have downloaded if I could...

Thanks and take care,
Henke

Not sure
I hear the lacking lower end that you do but I’ll check again.
As for the download I just tried it and it worked for me. I don’t know what’s going on with this place. It’s been pretty shaky but I’m happy it’s still plugging along.
Thanks Henke,
Charlie

Sorry
Listened again and there is plenty of low end. I really must fix that ear wax, it's quite annoying in many instances of life :-/ I did try to apply some eq and reverb in Audacity and couldn't make it any better than what it already was, so... (However, Audacity did bring up a few red lines suggesting possible clipping - not that I can hear any...) So again, sorry for my too quick and faulty feedback. /H

The Passing Sun
Has a majestic feel to it. I like the interaction between the instruments and the variety in the arrangement. Good one, Charlie.

Sun
Dignity, grandeur and wonder. You seem to be able to capture sweeping vistas the way you capture sweeping emotions. Sound like it could easily wrap up a space documentary. Your other gift of unhurried forward motion is in full display here too. Nice use of the brass for gravitas.

Dignity,
grandeur and wonder.
Feel good that you got these from this work.
I was sitting on it for quite a while, liking what I had but not sure what I could to to pull it together until a week or so ago it finally came and rather quickly.
Glad you enjoyed it Doug.
Always good to hear from you my friend.
Cheers,
Charlie

Here comes the sun...
...It's all right!!!
Big strings here. You make the scene big, too, by presenting your ideas in such a bold manner, unrelenting right up to the end...the end: what happened? It just...ended. Did you intend that? Maybe a fade-put would work to your advantage, i.e. 'the PASSING sun." I like the majestic strokes throughout, though.
(Did I correctly pick up on that Beatles reference in the first several bars? Was it intended?)

I wasn’t
consciously thinking of that Beatle’s classic by was matching it up with the words to the title THE PASSING SUN but the subconscious works in mysterious ways so you might be right.

As for the ending - I think it reflects a way of looking at all our sound and fury amounting to so little as the sun moves on and passes us by.
Thanks Paul for your thoughtful comments.
