The Merry Go Round

Description
After attending a guitar retreat where Peppino D'Agostino was one of the presenters, I thought I'd try to put together a series of tunes using various guitar tunings. This is one! The guitar on the left is open D tuning (although I'm using a capo to make the Key E). The second guitar is standard tuning, played in C but with a capo on the 4th fret to bring it up to E. Some bass and synth fill things out.

I hope you enjoy listening!

Subtle and joyful.
Lovely work here, the writing and playing are both beautiful. The subtle touch you have really makes the best of this tune. I just wish it were longer! Thanks for the download, and I'll be sure to download again if you do a longer version.

Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! I fiddled with a longer version but didn't think there was enough variety in it. I still need to work on where all the notes are with open tunings! Thanks for stopping by - much appreciated.

Welcome Home Tuning
I learned this as "Welcome Home Tuning". It was a bluegrass thing... where the lead goes to the right. Great job with the voices!

A delight
There is nothing as happy yet calming than the sound of fingerpicking guitar. I wish I would've kept playing guitar as a youth. Such peace and warmth. Thanks for sharing this.

Calming
I guess we'd all like to play multiple instruments, but I find it hard enough to get where I want to be on one! Thanks for the comments, Tobin - they are much appreciated.

Sounds great!
But all that technical talk is making me woozy :)
Sounds like the guitar retreat did you no harm Philip - a very tasty post indeed.

Guitar Retreat
I had a good time there, Neil, and came home with plenty of things to explore and practice. A once-in-a-lifetime experience that I'm glad I did.

The Merry Go Round
A nice, gentle merry-go-round that could have easily kept going for a couple of spins more. The two tunings blend well together and the backing arrangement is subtle and tasteful. I am now awaiting the piece with DADGAD tuning capoed up to fret 4 against Open G minor 7 tuned down half a semi-tone :-) Talk soon.

A couple of spins more...
I keep them short because I struggle to get interesting melodies with these tunings. Simple is easy; the next level more challenging. I might try that tuning you mention - and blame you if it all goes wrong (that half a semi-tone bit might stretch the ears!). See you soon!

Experimental music
Interesting experiment. It's good to keep trying out new ideas .. as well as getting input from new sources. Is Peppino D'Agostino a family member of the legendary D'Agostino luthiers?

Experiment
I'm certainly enjoying myself trying out some new things, Warren! I don't know if there's a link between the D'Agostinos - but you've sparked my interest and I'll try to find out! Thanks for stopping by - much appreciated.

I like the use
of the bass with the fingerpicking and the softness of the beautiful picking !

Way to go and of course helping with ideas about exporting and getting images to stick in Macjams!

Terrific ending too with the instrumental! Very nicely done !! Great recording ! Again love the use of the bass and provides me inspiration to make my bass sounds better! And like the open tunings and the use of the Capo!

Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, Bill. Re the bass, I tend to play bass for simple things but if I want something more intricate or want to feature it, I try to use Chris Rock (Rock 41) or Neil Porter (Jiguma). The wonderful opportunities MacJams presents! Thanks for listening and for the comments - much appreciated!
