Description
Another live one from my monthly gig at the Californian. Who doesn't love this song? And who doesn't want to sing it? Well, it is a favorite of many including the old folk at the home. Here's my stab to capture a little of the magic woven into this song.

music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg

Here's a song...
that I uploaded a few years ago that tries to capture a little of the magic of a song like this one.

One of best all time songs
I love this song. I covered it on one of my albums, a piano/soprano sax duet I titled "No Place Like Home". Although the middle section is a New Age original, not really a variation of cover, it would never have existed with this song as inspiration.

See: http://www.tobinmueller.com/solo/home.html

My mother loved Judy Garland above all other performers. This song was her signature, and it is hard not to think of the song without thinking of both her teenage version wishing for a better future - or her middle aged version she sang that was backward looking with regret and melancholy.

I love your straight forward take. It's calming and nostalgic. Thanks for sharing

Indeed, one of the best...
Thanks, Tobin. Judy Garland was wonderful talent. She knew how to deliver a song. No wonder she was your mother's favorite. When my father died a few years ago, I brought home many of his old LP's. His music that I grew up listening to as he played them on his stereo Hi-Fi console. One of those albums is Judy Garland live in London. You can hear between the lines of some of the songs a sadness that probably foreshadowed her death.

Most know her for her role as Judy in "The Wizard of Oz" in which she sang this song. Less know is her run as one half of the duo as the top movie couple in Hollywood for a number of years:

Correction...
After pulling out the album again I saw that I mis-identified it. IThe recording is Judy Garland Live at Carnegie (1961). Great 2 disc album.

Over the rainbow
Great song. I do love The Wizard of Oz. Good to hear you're giving the folks at the Californian a fine rendition of an old favourite. Of the many versions there are, the one that really gets to me is by Eva Cassidy - incredibly haunting, especially in the context of her own early death.

Thanks, Philip
I have to agree with you. Eva Cassidy's version is special. I like the variation on the chord changes that she uses. Haunting vocal indeed. What a talent - gone much too soon...

Just wonderful
I don't have much connection to the song, just as something they played on the radio when I was younger. I didn't know English by then and up to this day I've had no idea of what the lyrics are about.

What I know though, is that I love your heartfelt version. There's something in your voice that talks gently, peacefully about love. Ordinary, everyday, good love that we all need to get and give more and more of as time appoaches the end of a terrible era of mankind.

Just wonderful to enjoy your singing this one!
