Dalston Junction (with Scofugate)

Description
Dalston Junction - Postcode E8, London Borough of Hackney.
I moved here in 1997.
Well-known for urban deprivation, poor social housing and gangland violence, it has since become 'gentrified' and 'cool'.
Bearded hipsters with fixed-wheel bicycles ('fixies') now rule the streets.
It won't last - fickle fashion fades fast.

The amazing Scott Fugate ('scofugate' on macjams) on drums.

I wasn't expecting that!
I'm not sure I've heard an instrumental from you before.

Very nicely done Julian, I am most impressed!

Lovely playing and not a beard in sight ;-)

This does have a cool feel - I can see those bearded hipsters sitting in a coffee lounge with this on in the background. Scott's snappy drums keep things together and the variety of instruments you introduce keep things interesting. Nice work, Julian!

Yeah Daddy. This oozes with London cool. A Ultra-Lounge sensibility that I just can't get enough of. A fast Download from Racerat that's for damn sure. Fickle fashion doesn't last - it is quickly replaced by yet another trend - viral movement or anthropological hiccup to keep us all amused.

cool groove
Always good to have Scott onboard a project. Good to hear you are still making tunes. Like the work you did - especially on the EQ.

Jazz!!! interesting rhythm, for a second I thought it was something like 5/4. Creates a perfect setting for the subject. Just a hint of melancholy throughout. Now I know what fixies are as well. Very enjoyable record, ta muchly.

A Moving Tune, Gentlemen!
What a listening jewel! Confident, smooth and directed, transporting this listener to delighting unheard places. The horn....transitions... percussion... all of it. Just: Wow! Thank you for dl.

Sorry I'm late, Julian. Been on sabbatical. And travelling round the colonies. Just back from Norfolk Island (home of Mutiny On The Bounty Pitcairn Islanders since 1856). Probably some Hackney lads ended up there as well at the convict settlements :-) Anyway, a cool jazz instrumental is a good welcome home. A touch wistful. Just a hint of tongue in cheek? A quinoa macchiato, anyone? Scott's additions work a treat. Thanks. Take care.

Got the flavor...
...of the space / place. Hip and mellow and cool. Who knows? Maybe it WILL last. At least for now it has a really cool theme song to describe it. Lots of really wonderful things going on here: great solo clarinet, the little bells jangling, superlative drumming, and a vibe that screams "immediacy" and "authenticity." Really cool track, Julian..

Cool
Living 35 mins from Kings Cross these days I am in London a lot more than back in the old Midlands days....cool hipsters and cool hamsters everywhere!!! This has a tone of slightly resigned melancholy to me as one who has seen his home area invaded not for the first time but kind of knows that eventually all the new comers will eventually get absorbed into the diaspora like everyone else. can I really hear all that in a tune?!!!
