Description
I said I would post the 4/4 version of Psalm 63-I Long for You (as written in 1981 for Damean Music). Here it is. It was captured live with my good old Zoom H2 recorder at St. Mary's Church in St. Paul today. Larry Strom at piano.

The alternate 3/4 version is posted here: http://www.macjams.com/song/82452

Here is what I wrote for the 3/4 version: I lead singing (often with both voice and nylon guitar) at one and sometimes two churches on weekends. I keep trying to improve my breath control and guitar playing. I love the Psalms of King David. A psalm is sung at a Catholic Mass after the first scripture reading. Here is Psalm 63 for the "12th Sunday in Ordinary Time." This setting was written in 1981 by Balhoff, Daigle and Ducote (for the Damean Community). However, they wrote it in 4/4 time. My keyboard player at St. Mary's, Larry, did an adaptation in 3/4 (waltz) time several years ago for a Polka Mass. Well, we were on for 4:30 Mass this weekend and he sent me his Sibelius score and a practice MP3 he had made "for accordion and piano." I did not like the feel of it. I did this practice recording in order to convince myself that it could be smoothed out with less oom-pa-pa. Then after I did the recording, I discovered the original 4/4 arrangement online and figured we better do it the way it was intended by the original authors. Bottom line: both meters work for the song.

Lovely tune
Nice guitar/piano piece and the vocals fit well. You are in your element when performing this type of music. I think this has to be one of your best performances, this must be your calling. Thanks for sharing, enjoyed.

Practical and Pleasant
Liturgical music is enhanced by your dedication to presenting beautiful melodies wedded to scriptural texts. THIS version of the Damean tune is absolutely accessible by a soloist and assembly and pleasantly fills the bill as a Responsory Psalm. There is always a sincerity to your vocals, and that comes through winningly here. Nice.

Winningly
Thanks for your support, Paul. You have been an inspiration to me for a long time. I work with what I was given. My worst problem is vocal strain that occurs sometimes with a lot of notes above high C. Other times, no problem. What was Michael Jackson's secret for singing high? Estrogen? Surgery?

Pretty...
Your vox seems to improve with age, like a fine wine.

Be well friend!

Aw, shucks. Thanks, Mike.
Lots of flat notes here. But if I'm not fighting a cold I can hit most of the notes with resonance. I'll tell you this: I love singing in church - especially if it has good reverb. One church I sing at has lousy acoustics. The other has awesome reverb.
