Lyrics
Even though the sun is absent
December to December
Even though the moon is long gone
It's helpful to remember

Remember all the secret places
Remember all the smiling faces
Remembering the fall from grace

Remember

Remember all the secret places
Remember all the smiling faces
Remembering the fall from grace

Remember

Even though the world's still shining
It's like a dying ember
Even as we stand here crying
It's helpful to remember

Remember all the secret places
Remember all the smiling faces
Remembering the fall from grace

Remember

Acoustic talent...
Taste? Check. Tone? Check. Tenacity? Check. All three Ts together and it has the feel of an impromptu. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work with us here!

Ta, Dawg
It would be cool to play this live with a percussionist, but I'll have to make do with multitracking for now.

I agree.
Now I'm busy adding things to this version - all acoustic so far! Thanks for listening, KC.

Lovely Ballad
While there is a lot to like here I'm particularly fond of your vocal. Like KC says, if this works acoustically then it is solid - I completely agree. Of course I can imagine a more full arrangement, but it doesn't cry out for it.

Many thanks for the download!

We're not killing it
But it has lovely, subtle McNair drums and better guitar now. I haven't mucked up the vocals. Thanks for the kind words, Doug.

A long way on
All the drum stems and new guitars are in the hands of Tom at TST Studios now for spiffing up. Glad you enjoyed it, Mark.

Sorry I'm late, Graham. I should have been around to support this one. Quality acoustic guitar work and some fine vocals - right up my alley. Nice harmonies. Perhaps, in this version, the acoustic is just a touch too prominent? Not a lot, but it just masks the vocal a bit in the "remember" section. Nice one. Thanks.

Usual story
I eventually sent the stems to Tom and ended up with a clear, balanced version for my archives. I like the song too. It didn't require a lot of arranging and the words came easily. It's a bit post - apocalyptic for John Martyn, but the ends justify the inspiration I think. Ta for the kind words, Peter.

John Martyn you say?
Nicely played and sung.

I was delayed in commenting because I wasn't familiar with John Martyn and I had go go check him out. In the old days that would've meant heading to a record store, going to the library or checking out a friend's collection. Today, for me, it's visiting the online Rhapsody (now re-branded as Napster) site. It's faster than having to make a physical trip .. but in another way it slows things down. Punch in "John Martyn" and you have a selection of over thirty albums to choose from going back to 1967. In the track listing there are 917 songs. Whoa! How is it I have never heard of him? Nick Drake - check. Richard Thompson - check. Bert Jansch - check. But John Martyn and his extensive career output - no.

Well, what can you say? We all have holes in our music consciousness. There's more new music released every year than we can listen to in a lifetime .. so not only is it impossible to keep current .. but one also has to make room for going back and filling in the blanks. I find this is one of the fringe benefits of participating in a social network like MacJams: it informs us. I now know who John Martyn is. I have listened to his first album. Only 29 more to go to complete my education.

Thanks, Warren
I recommend "Solid Air", "One World" and "Live at Leeds". After 1980 he went a bit Hollywood and the quality went down.
