One Hundred Eighty

Just something simple: a waltz that is almost a theme and variations because there is a similar "feeling" throughout the piece. It is mostly written in just two voices, my growing penchant for "transparent music" taking the lead on my thinking. No fru-fru; just the laying out of a tune. ... If you're interested in seeing or playing the score for yourself, you can find it here. ... Enjoy (I hope).

It has a romantic feel to it.
Yes, definitely the romantic part of your creative energy coming out here. It's a combination of familiar and unusual, at least to me, though I am not sure exactly why it feels like that. I can hear mid twentieth century influences and a hint of jazz, and I guess jazz influences are unusual in a waltz so maybe that's it. I am still lost to explain why this has such a familiar feel to it since I don't recognise the tune for sure. It's got a familiar FEEL to it though, and maybe that's enough. If I work out what it is I'll have to come back and post again.

Now the tune is so clear and straightforward it's got a refreshing feel to it as well. A sophisticated composition made from simple ingredients, something I have heard at this site much more often than elsewhere.

Or maybe I'm thinking too much ;)

Enjoy it I did
Two voices speak volumes. This is a graceful dance, which to me varies between joy and a kind of bittersweet longing as the piece evolves. I like the fact that it does a recap to the sunnier disposition, mainly because it started that way and despite the contrasting emotions it's nice to finish on a high. The tone of your piano is superb and once again you show in your touch to be the master of rubato. Our emotions are like putty in your hands. A welcome accompaniment to my afternoon!

Thanks Paul.

PS - I don't know if anyone is also having problems getting a play bar to show up on an iPhone with this site but it's really annoying. I finally remembered that there was a download button otherwise I wouldn't be able to hear the piece.

Simple is good if you can do it. The most memorable tunes are simple, but it takes talent to make simple interesting as well. You have a knack for it. Added to the PFP "By the Numbers" album.

Straightforward Journey...
... with some side trips along the way, to explore the countryside and enjoy the scenery. That is what this musical metaphor suggests to me. Simple, but with illustrative variations that suggest an elaboration of what surrounds you, as you stroll through this reverie. ;)

Late, Paul. Sorry. Lovely, lilting, waltz. Simple in concept but less so in execution, me thinks :-) I like the recording a lot, too. Beautiful.

Somehow this one escaped me.
This flows so beautifully. As I do so often with your music I see sweet montages of a wistful past.
I noticed that your lovely ending cut off before the reverb could completely fade out.
Another wonderful post Paul.

This needs/wants words...
I imagine it as a pensive rumination sort of song, sung by someone thinking of the person they love who isn't there right then...

A good just-about-fall-in-love song...

It's luxurious to take out the headphones on this New England snow day and give this a listen. The phrasing is musical and human, and the piano tone as always is rich, with a nice and natural reverberation.
