Description
My Trump trilogy of songs has become quadrophonic!
I still don't believe he's been elected - America wtf were you thinking!?
There's a pretty liberal dose of midi in this - which is how I got the punch in the bass. Gavin plays drums.
I have had most of the backing track for a while and did the lyrics and vocals over the last couple of days.

Some Say We Get What We Deserve
©2017 Neil Porter

Some say we get what we deserve
You think I’m messing with your head
I think there’s dangerous times a-coming
I think there’s lots of work ahead

You’ve got a lot of nerve
“Things are broken” that’s what you said
I can’t see things getting any better
We got a can of worms instead

Some say we get what we deserve
Some say we get what we deserve

SOLO

You see a chance to start again
I see a nightmare riding in
It seems we’ve borrowed so much trouble
Some kind of mess you’ve sunk us in

Some say we get what we deserve
Some say we get what we deserve
Some say we get what we deserve
Some say we get what we deserve

Deserve
Yeah. Nothing to add here, really.

Hard to beat a good sample library, sometimes, right? I love that bass sound. Something in that finger sound makes it sound like there is a wah on it, but that's only on one of the guitars. And the clavinet, I assume.

It all sounds very nice.

Cheers Vic
Sometimes those samples just do it better than I can - the plan was to use the samples to get the basic tracks sorted and then replace them myself, but when it got to the replacing part, I couldn't see the point. The bass is double tracked midi with a P-Bass and a fretless strip. At least one of the guitars is me though ;)

Cool tune Neil
however you did it; funky rock with a message most of those outside America can relate to. I'm not politically savvy enough to argue like some on this site but what's done is done and while personally I think he's a buffoon and a parody of a human being, I sincerely wish him well for at least four years. And, if I prayed, I would.

From an outside the US perspective, Trump seems to either want to separate from other countries (e.g. ending TPP) or go to war with them (e.g. talking about "Maybe we'll have another chance" to get Iraq's oil). Worrying times.

However, there's still music to calm the soul! I love the backing on this, Neil - it has real punch. A powerful statement here.

Dig this piece.
Already the 4th song about that dumbass??
I intended to write some songs about him, but I think he isn't worth the effort...
Man, headboppin here.
Gonna grab me a copy for in the car :-)

Funky stuff. The music taps into a fun 70's vibe. Sadly, you could have attached a photo of any number political figures and the song would still be relevant. Well executed...(there is a joke here, but I am not going there)...and well played.

Personally
I am weary of all the hysteria. We here would have been just as screwed if Clinton had won. Given the choice of arsenic or cyanide I chose not to vote this time.

Anyway... Nice work as usual, Neil. I concur with Vic D's comments on the bass sound.

Enjoyed!

Be well friend!

NEIL!!
This mix brings the funk!

Seriously, I was listening on the cheesy little MacBook speakers and even in that mode, it was awesome...but I went bouncing down the hall and got headphones so I could hear the full range...

Great lyrics and groove. A really good, solid song. I think you used your voice really effectively on this... I continue to admire your ability keeping things simple while still having interweaving parts... I like the various keyboard sounds, and I also think you're playing some tasty rhythm guitar on this...

I'm really impressed...

Plainly if there is a Trump trio out there, I need to get to listening...

Presidential...
Smokin!

Too cool for any president to be associated with it. But I can work it out..

I'm curious about how ya produced this. Really nice stuff going on there w/ the drums, bass and synth. Very nice indeed.

Nice to see you're still at it Neal.

Dion!
What a very pleasant surprise to see that you have had a visit and a listen. Thanks for the comment.

Production?: started with a stock drum track to keep time; played in the big rhythm chords, then started experimenting with midi bass options, selecting one or two bar grabs; more experimenation with snippets of various guitar loops; replaced stock drums with Drummer track; split drummer track and bass track into verses, chorus, etc; modified fairly radically the midi in the bass track to what I was thinking; linked drummer travk to work off the bass track and then added variations in Drummer; added bits of clav and B3 midi loops where they fit; trimmed excess, unneccesary stuff; wrote words; sung words; added harmonies; mixed; mastered in Ozone 5.

Simple really :)

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Oops
After adding the clav and B3 I converted the drummer track to midi to fine/tune the drums.

Great music Neil. The bass is groovy. There are dangerous times a coming. Unfortunately here in Canada it's too close for comfort. I am tired of every where I turn there is more news and fake news and internet social brain overload. I want it to go away. Some of the best songs are inspired by something that creates a spark. And you can feel the spark in this song.

Great funk vibe. Using loops seems appropriate for a song about the Trumpster. But I take issue with the "alternate facts" that you are presenting :-) He really is a kind, caring guy. I know, Sean Spice told me... Excellently put together. And I agree with the title. They voted for him (some did, anyway) and now they have to live with him. Take care.

don't blame me!
pretty funky tune Neil.
the arrangement is great and intricate. the bass & clavinet remind me a bit of early 70's stevie wonder. but as a whole it's all you.

I think we are seeing a train wreck in motion.

Yes, I agree - real is nearly always better, but in this case the midi stuff sounded better than I was likely to be able to play live.
Thanks for listening and leaving a comment.

The
bass might be midi, but I really like its funky feel. Couldn't listen sitting still on this one, esp when the funky organ/wah guitar popped in.
As for Donald, you caught my sentiments almost exactly.

It wasn't me either...
I still feel like I'm living in some kind of bizzarro world out of a weird comic book alternate timeline. I just hope there's going to be a superhero that can fly in and save us.

Funky tune. Sharp production. Very crisp. I love the sound of the synth bass. Gives it a little 80s throwback feel to my ears.

Always glad to hear your musical commentary on world events. I've tried to write something, but every time I sit down to write I just get too made, depressed and frustrated. Normally, that would inspire me, but I just can't channel it yet.

Thanks for sharing, and on behalf of many of my fellow Americans - we're sorry.

Get funky!

America has become (once again) a house divided among itself. That usually means, to cite Dylan, a hard rain's a gonna fall. I'm going to try to stick to the high moral ground .. but the slope has become slippery.

Quadrophenia!
Tightly performed and certainly topical. Loving the groove you've got here, especially the touches like the punchy bass riffs, soloing, and clavs. Top level production as per your standard Neil. Appreciate the download.

Cheers from the GWN!
