Description
No roaring tweeds, plodding bass, rumbling keys or thumping drums herein I'm afraid.

Just Calchas... unplugged... in YOUR living room... singing for coffee...

Lyrics
EXPLORERS

I.
Well it's a very strange experience,
to wake up here again;
to take the wheel on this ride called “life”
that I've been given.

Not knowing what the new day,
just might have in store.
I look around put the peddle to the floor.

II.
Hey there fellow traveler!
How on earth have you been?
It seems like its been eons,
since I last saw you my friend.

You seem no worse for the wear
underneath your wrinkled skin.
Your inner light's still shining like a beacon!

CHORUS:
After all that we have been through,
after all that we have seen,
from the sylvan heights of beauty,
to the depths of the obscene...
We're explorers by nature,
and we'll search forevermore;
looking for the truth behind each door.

III.
Well I humbly beg your pardon,
but I just can't remember when,
or where it was exactly,
that we last shook hands my friend.

The years have been unfriendly.
My memories growing dim;
but the love of life's still burning deep within!

IV.
All the pleasures we have shared...
all the pains we have endured;
in life's school of experience,
many lessons we have learned.

Now's the time to apply, the wisdom we have gained;
before we see the fallin' of the hard rain.

CHORUS:
After all that we have been through,
after all that we have seen,
from the sylvan heights of beauty,
to the depths of the obscene...
We're explorers by nature,
and we'll search forevermore;
looking for the truth behind each door.

To be continued...
Now
and
evermore!

Who
indeed? But it works, so no matter. Everybody should busk it every now and then. I read the lyrics both with and without the music playing. Enjoyed the story. Please continue...

I flipped some virtual gold coins into your open guitar case, Mike. Have a coffee on me. I will FedEx the money through. :-) Much enjoyed. Classic folk vibe. Liking the positive lyrics, too. More of this style, please. Take care, my friend.

Sir Peter!
I will have the gold melted down so I can use it for tooth fillings! Although most of my stuff is rock of some sort I'm really an old folkie at heart don'tcha know...

A thematically similar, although more melancholic, tune is currently under production. It will be a bit more rocky though. Stay tuned!

Be well bro!

This is folk as it should be, with contemplative lyrics and classic folk arrangement. And sometimes unplugged is the way to go - very nice. I'd like to make a suggestion, or at least give you some food for thought. You set this up as unplugged - up close and personal, in my living room even lol. And I can see it, except, your vocal doesn't sound like it's in my living room because my living room isn't that live sounding. So my suggestion would be to back off the reverb, maybe get rid of it altogether - THAT would bring your vocal up close and personal, and depending on how you mix it with the guitar, would provide a more realistic listening experience.

Just my opinion - none the less, I enjoyed listening - thanks!
Sig

Now, you didn't ask for advice and please accept my apology if I'm overstepping my bounds - it's just something I noticed as I listened

Advice...
is one of the reasons for posting anything here Sig. So thank you... I will fool around with your idea. Perhaps the final CD version will lose the reverb on the vox.

Cool beans
as Harold used to say. And, though I miss the roaring tweeds, this sounds terrific. Seriously troubadour, and we get to hear the enjoyable timbre of your voice. Thanks for the song; now, how do you take that coffee?

Hi Rich!
Sometimes less really is more, isn't it? I had entertained the idea of accordion and tambourine accompaniment, but in the end chose to keep it simple. I wrote this about ten years ago. (The guitar tracks is a decade old while the lyrics are recently revised and the vocal track is brand new...) It's one of less than a handful of songs I've written that I actually COULD perform unplugged in the living room. Thanks for the kind words re my vox. Although I honestly prefer to partly bury it in them there "roaring tweeds." :-)

Hi Bob!
Thanks for the kind words. I don't do a lot of this sort of thing partly because my voice isn't what it used to be and partly because when I come out from behind the electric guitars I feel positively NAKED! (Not just unplugged but undressed!) This vocal was a happy accident because it was done in one take. Normally I have to do several then piece together the best parts... Glad you enjoyed it.

Livingroom Coffeehouse
Reminds me of an early James Keelaghan. A hearty round of balladeering which is great to hear - you seem to be in your element when singing this kind of song. It really comes through. And yes, you can have the whole carafe of coffee after a performance like that!

Appreciate the downloaded addition to my folk collection. Thanks!

You know...
My earliest musical loves were Duane Eddy and his twangy guitar on the one hand, and the Kingston trio on the other. Psychedelia and the Beatles intervened, and the rest is history. Explains a LOT, huh?

My wife is quite angry with you! Since quaffing that carafe I haven't shut up!!! ;-)
