Lyrics
WHY DON’T YOU LIKE MY FRIENDS ?
Words & Music Franciscus Henri (BMG/ALBERT MUSIC)
Nothing is simple
These are complicated times
You can’t turn back history
But you can change your mind
(She said)
Why don’t you like my friends?
Why don’t you take me dancing at the
Why don’t you like my friends?
Why don’t you take me dancing at The Beat?
I drew back the curtains
to let in the sunlight
I unlocked the French doors
and opened them up wide
(She said)
CHORUS
I looked across the harbour
and my mind sailed out to sea
she said “I can tell;
You’re not listening to me”
(She said)
CHORUS
You’ve got your friends on Facebook
and I’ve got mine on twitter
I’m not usually the kind
Who says things that are bitter
I’m not Sigmund Freud
and I can’t read your mind
If I were Picasso
I’d know where to draw the line
she turned her face to me and said
CHORUS
I said You sound to me
Like a song, that’s kind of sad
The chords are all wrong
And the rhyming is bad
CHORUS
I turned on the TV
and I watched Fred Astaire
he was walking with Ginger Rogers
Who had black and white, red hair
she asked where are we going
He said just down this street
She asked are we going dancing
he said I’m following the fleet
CHORUS

Too cool!
Great fun Franc, and how cool to collab with your daughter. She has a great voice. The beat is infectious with some great quirky bits, and the lyrics have a couple of great lines (black and white red hair and if I were Picasso...). I'm not overly familiar with your catalogue Franc but I think this is a stylistic departure for you. Whatever, I like it. All the best to both of you. Cheers.

Great fun indeed ,Sasja is over from Tokyo so I took the opportunity to record something together. Stylistic departures are now my style...You can never tell where it leads you.

Why don't you like my friends
Feel good vibe, clever lyrics and fine interplay between Sasja and you, Franc. You both have fine voices. Great to hear a female vocal without "stylised" autotune. Harp/harpsichord (?) in a dance-club song? Classic! Much enjoyed. Thanks.

Thanks Peter
That her voice..no need for any technical stuff.
I called the track "dance club" because what the....that long list of musical definitions does my head in and any way that's where the woman wanted to go.
A song feeding on itself sort of so to speak :)

Why don't you like my friends?
I love overheard conversations - stripped of context they can be so much more interesting! Entertaining song. Sasja's voice is pure honey and very relaxed. And yours is quite acceptable too :-)

How was this done - were you both in the same room or in different countries?

Loved it!
This reminds me I have an overheard conversation written down somewhere that needs a song.

Great lyrics and the call and answer format works really well.

Cheers

A special kind of collaboration
You both sound great, and the structure you've put in is clever and works well to keep variety fresh. Much more sophisticated than many dance numbers yet it retains the catchiness of the genre. I love the latin influences and the supportive backing instruments that let your voices ring through.

I posted a collaboration a while back which included my daughter. It was a very special way to share creativity and a common bond.

Thanks for the download!

I got
juuuuust a bit of a tango feel at times, but then not really. It doesn't matter, though. I really liked the general moving rhythm. The vocals here were the highlight for me.
