Description
It's been at least 4 months since I wrote this, and it's been sitting around gathering dust for ages - until this morning, when I decided it was time to post it so I can start something new. Originally written with PBGB in mind, but I just can't seem to have any success with my songs in that context at the moment.
Lyrics could really be about anything these days - is it just me, or is the world in a mess - though I suspect the subject matter when I wrote it was the voting public responsible for the current nightmare in US politics. I've said it before: wtf were you thinking!
It's a solo effort - drums by Mason in Drummer.

Lyrics
Dead Man Walking
©2017 Neil Porter

D7 D7sus4
You’re just a dead man walking
You don’t realise
You’re just a poor fool talking
Like all the other guys
D#9
Dead man walking
F9
Poor fool talking
D7 D7sus4
D#9
Dead man walking
F9
Poor fool talking

Another blind man watching
Was there another way?
You must be hard of hearing
You had so much to say
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking

BRIDGE: | G7 | G7 | C | C | F9 | F9 | Fm7 | Gm7 |

You’ve got so much to say
But I don’t know what you mean
I hear the words OK
But I can’t read in between
Sometimes I wonder
Did you learn anything at school
You’ve got so much to say
Not saying anything at all

SOLO

I’m hearing what you’re saying
But I don’t understand
I see the game you’re playing
See through your messy plans
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking

You got my blood near boiling
I didn’t understand
Your squeaky wheel needs oiling
You need to kick some cans
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking

Dead man walking
Poor fool talking
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking

Dead man walking
Poor fool talking
Dead man walking
Poor fool talking

I really appreciate...
...your takes on the state of the world and the U.S., Neil. As a world traveler/citizen, as an APPRECIATOR of the world, your good heart always come through....

I realized tonight that I don't often comment on lyrics, at least not in a long while, but I love lyrics, and I love when they are well crafted: part of well-crafted to me is that they have something to say and that the thing they say is worth saying and good hearted...

This one and a number of yours lately pass that test. I would like to be able to come up with something like that myself...

I could imagine this in an almost John Hurt sort of country blues form, big ol' bass notes under the thumb...

Moody
Swampy and to the point even if not intended. Do I hear banjo? I think percussion on the 1/8 notes would deepen the groove. I really like your vocals. I always look at the mix for instruction. Yours are always instructive. What I think is an electric piano in the middle is place st a great atmospheric point. Nice work. I am inspired.

You can tell you're a real musician
Cause you know what chords you're playing!
Toure voice sounds great on this, and gives it a nice downbeat, almost bluesy feel. Sounds like you learnt a lot at school.

Yep, the squeaky wheel needs oiling alright.
Very cool groove pulsing away behind this one. I am glad you dusted it off and shared it. Thanks for posting the chords. I would never have worked them out on my own.

Travelling in Ireland and Italy for six weeks, Neil. Having a great time. Trying to listen to Macjams via IOS is a pain. I will play catchup when I get back. Take care.

This reminded me somewhat of Dr. John in his Splintered Gilders day. Nice style, nice lyrics. Nuff said, another good one from one of our Hall of Fame members.

I love the rolling guitar underneath this. You get the best out of Mason! Neat keys solo. That close up vocal suits the song. It's good, Neil!

Dead Man Walking
Back home after six weeks, mostly in Italy. I love its cool, classy, carefree, chaotic vibe. Great trip. Some fine music to listen to on return, as well. Same stripped back approach but a different musical emphasis this outing, Neil. Works great, especially in the thematic context of the lyrics. Eerie and eclectic. Grazie mille. Talk soon.
