Description
I had purchased a Taylor 214ce several years ago and ended up taking it back to the store due to the saddle pickup system that was included with the guitar. Taylor must have been listening to their customers, they changed the system to the ES2 system which includes 3 adjustments and a phase switch. To my surprise I haven't had to tweak it yet. I had come to the conclusion that the best way to record an acoustic is with a mic, the only issue is finding a quiet enough space to record in. My thought was to test the pups alone this time, they pick up everything and unfortunately my abilities as well. Maybe there's something available to rub on the hands to keep the strings from squeaking or those recommended medium Elixirs need to be changed to the lights that I'm accustomed to. Thanks to my local Guitar Center who allows me to haggle and get the best prices on new gear. There was a need to upgrade on the acoustic side and now thrilled to have this guitar in my possession.

After
about 30 secs in, I pictured myself in a cozy, local pub, relaxed as hell, and just enjoying the band they booked that eve. Such a comfortable listen. As you tell, I'm a "feel" person.

Thanks Sam
You know... I have this case of writer's block. I'm stuck in D all the time. Maybe it's time to go back to the basics. My old Hohner just doesn't cut it anymore so I've been wanting a decent acoustic for some time. I went to the music store to see if I could find a usable 300 dollar guitar but the next room with the Martins, Gibsons and Taylors beckoned me... I felt the calling and yes, there's a big difference, at least to me. I traded an electric I had bought through Craigs list and to my surprise GC offered the same amount of money for it that I had paid. Tack on a manager's coupon that was sent to me and a little begging I managed to upgrade from what I had originally planned to get. Anyway... I know you feel it and I keep you in mind whenever something new surfaces so maybe we'll connect here soon.

Ah-ha
Now I understand part of that "comfort": that crispy/smooth acoustic tone.

I'm not sure if I like the pick up for recording... Maybe mic'd with the pickup but I'm sure it could come in handy for live use. More experimenting and maybe mess around with the sound without the DAW presets. Thanks for the kind words.. it was a rough run using GB w/o bouncing to Logic.

Sharing the moment
You can obsess over the squeaks, clicks and room sounds when it comes to playing and recording, but there's plenty of room here at MacJams for just laying it down and sharing the good vibes that come from getting a new guitar. I can hear that joy, here, coming through loud and clear.

Tim, I use to be stuck on E
Then G, I hope I didn't settle for D. To much variety out there to miss out on. I'm really trying to take another look at myself and see how I can improve. I've been messing around with some zeppelin and find that he was dropping his 6th to D on the last one I was working on... go figure. Thanks for listening, always a pleasure to read your comments.

Stuck in D
Rich sound to the guitar - maybe needs to be tamed a bit more?

Also, given the big sound, some open tunings might be interesting?

You've given the guitar good workout here - I like the sound of it and of your playing. Entertaining, John!

any suggestions are welcome. I think more "taming" is a nice description and what I look forward to experimenting with. Open tuning is something I need to revisit as well. Thanks for the listen and the comment.

Don't know much about...
...guitars, but this one really sounds terrific. this is a nice improv that clearly displays many aspect of the instrument...And you seem to be having such fun playing, too. Such a comfortable feeling one gets from hearing this carefree track. Congratulations on owning such a fine instrument. It is always such a blessing when things like this happen in our lives.

I feel the same about classical music, I like it but really don't know how to review it. I'm glad you enjoyed the test. Isn't music an accomplishment if the outcome can bring pleasure to the listener?

410! Nice guitar
The Taylor's with the bolt on necks seemed to project a lot more than the other guitars at the store. Your 410 I believe would have a lot nicer expressions system which was the one I originally wanted but still I believe the one I purchased will meet my needs. Thanks for the listen Vic!

I'm a self taught guitar player who started playing at the age of 13. I mix my guitar progressions together, add lyrics and from that point I'll search for vocal melodies. The music I write is about life experiences and some about random subject mat... [see more]
