Tell me your story, I won't interrupt
There's more to your life than you share with the rabble
Your eyes paint a picture your smile tries to cover up
And you hide in these oceans of babble

Who said you couldn't?
Who says you can't?
I carried those chains till I learned they're not real
There's a star in the heavens- only you have the map
Don't let those who don't know you lay there hands on the wheel

They don't know you, they just keep you down
They don't see you, don't keep them around
They don't hear you, don't listen to what they say
You were made for the stars
it's always been that way.

Lovely clean tone to the guitar. Warm, emotional vocal. I like the elements you add to the vocal and guitar that starts the piece. The solo at 2:14 is beautiful.I like this a lot.

Intimate and involving, Paul. Love the guitar work and the recording and your vocals are engaging as ever. Poignant lyrics with a great chorus hook. Solo section and the harmonies are other highlights. Class act all round. Thanks, my friend. Take care.

This is beautiful...
Very nice folk ballad here man.
A man and his guitar. Reflective story-telling style lyrics. Wonderful effective vocal harmonizing.

Top notch!

I've been on a minimalist direction of late. It makes finishing a tune a lot faster that's for sure.
I'm glad you liked the tune Calchas.

“verse verse chorus solo verse chorus chorus?” Really?

Go back and edit your comment – and find yourself some artwork!

This is a magnificent ballad, well-recorded, and superbly performed.   A real “sleeper,” based on your self-effacing presentation of it which very-nearly caused me to overlook it completely. (Which would have been a magnificent shame.)

Your superb use of a chorus to emphasize key lyrics in the actual arrangement would have been completely lost in a simple reading of the lyrics.

That's funny, I had a much more in depth description all written out but the first attempt at uploading the song crashed on me, which pissed me off and so the second attempt was not nearly as introspective...
Thanks for sticking it out Mike.

The acoustic guitar tone is gorgeous...
...bright, spangly, woody and ringing...sounds real and vibrant...

The progressive simplicity of the arrangement is nice and appropriate, 'growing' in the headphones as the song progresses and serving the progression of the lyrics..

The lyrics are great, the melody is great, and the singing is terrific...

Despite your 'description' above, this has form and structure that serves to channel its energy...it's in no way formulaic...

about 2007 I received the gift of a presonus firepod. That launched me back into a love of music that I hadn't realized I'd been missing. Since then I've been writing and learning the craft of recording and mixing. I am now in two acoustic groups-... [see more]
